Who is top 5 coaches in girls basketball in all classes

Lamar Rogers of Clarkrange,  Jim Brown of Jackson County and Mitch Wilkins of Gibson County are three good ones. Rogers is the all time leader in victories with close to 1300 and Brown is in the top ten or so. Wilkins has 1000 or so if you count boys. Brown has close to a 1000 I would bet. Rogers and Wilkins are the two hottest right now as both teams have been very successful the last 10 years.

Don't know the other two well enough to comment, but will concur on Wilkins. He and his staff do a great job getting kids to buy in and play together. Not that the kids he has had aren't talented, but he has done a lot with what he has been given. The last state title team didn't really have any stud players, but just played great team basketball and did their jobs. 

These lists are hard because it is hard to choose what to base it on. You can look at win-loss record, championships, culture, etc., and come up with many different answers based on the criteria you choose. There are some coaches who have thrived for reasons beyond them being great coaches, and some that are great coaches who haven't necessarily put up undefeated seasons or won state titles.

I think its awesome that these coaches are listed. Most of the state don't know all the great coaches we have in Tennessee

I think Tennessee girls high school basketball is some of the best. Nice to hear about some of the leaders.

Wilkins is a hard worker. He has a Nick Saban type work ethic. 365 24/7. He has the art of motivating his players to play hard for 4 quarter’s consistently. He conditions his team to perfection and they are always mentally tough. He can press the whole game with 5 and beat most teams 10. He has a great feeder program that he works hard at too making sure they have plenty of games and tournaments. Gibson County is very fortunate and blessed to have him. Only a handful of coaches puts in the hours he does.

There you go again.  Listing a coach who has won only 1 state game and 0 championships with coaches who have.  Doesn’t stack up

881 wins does stack up.  That’s over 20 wins per season.  Lots of coaches would love to have that record.  You have to have a special team to win it all.  I know that because we had a special team last year at TCA and we won it all.  May not ever happen again.

If you look at those wins it doesn’t stack up.  Not even close.  Had several special teams and couldn’t get it done.  Longevity doesn’t always mean good   Zero state tournaments in the 2000’s

I don’t think he’s ever had that special team with all the key components.  He’s had good post play but not great guards.  He’s had great guards and not very good post play.  He’s had great defensive teams that weren’t great offensive teams and vice versa.  Winning a state championship is rare.  Not many coaches have a ring.  800 wins is elite no matter if you win a state championship or not.  Did you graduate from MCHS in ‘83?
