The Region 1-AAA girls tournament gets underway Friday at higher seeds.  Subsequent rounds will also be played at higher seeds this season due to COVID.  If Science Hill and Sevier County make the finals as the two top seeds (or David Crockett and Jefferson County as the two 2 seeds, etc.) then the District 1 team will host.

The bracket:

  • 4 Morristown West at 1 Science Hill
  • 3 Dobyns-Bennett at 2 Jefferson County
  • 3 Seymour at 2 David Crockett
  • 4 Volunteer at 1 Sevier County

I will go with Science Hill, D-B, Crockett and Sevier to win quarterfinals.  Not knowing much about District 2, I do know that the only rematch in the quarterfinals is D-B and Jefferson County.  D-B beat Jeff County pretty soundly in Dandridge during the regular season.

In the semifinals, I will go with the two top seeds to advance in Science Hill and Sevier County.  D-B does own a 20 point win over Science Hill at the New Gym in the regular season finale and the Lady Toppers will be looking for some revenge if they meet in the semifinals.  If Science Hill allows fans to attend, then I believe the student section will be too much for the Lady Indians to overcome.  Playing at Sevier is always tough, and the cinderella run for the Lady Pioneers ends in Sevierville I believe.

In the finals, I will go with Science Hill due to playing at home with the raucous student section.  Good luck to all the schools and hope it's a fun and safe tournament.  Let the road to state begin!

He has came back from the dead. Hes been awful quiet this year. I'll go with Science Hill, depends on what team shows up DB, Crockett in an ugly 35-32 game and Sevier County huge. Well I'll take DB for my good buddy.

    • Ah, more Coach Ham bashing. There seems to be a club, so tell us, are you the VP, Chairman?  From the stories I've heard from his past players themselves Coach Ham is one of a kind and has literally worked himself to the bone year after year at every coaching stop. His legacy isn't Ws and Ls.  So give it a rest. It may be old school cliché, but could you even walk a mile in his shoes? The man has retired from coaching, let him be. Even on these measily message boards.
    • Evans-Collins got a lot of play over the years.  Several junior high teams and the youth leagues played there in my day.
    • Nick Boykin of Riverdale Hs and Sunkist Kids WC will wrestle in the Olympic Trials finals tomorrow against Joe Rau. Winner goes to Tokyo!
    • Yeah, I’ve seen it cause issues too. I read in a newspaper that he was just going to teach, so I assumed it was at CRHS. Maybe I misunderstood. Are there any guys on his staff ready to take it over?
    • Sounds like the same group that designed West, South, East and Fulton. They all used the old Knoxville High Field along with Rule. Talk about a field that got over used.
