Do you know how many starters SG brings back and who is supposed to be the top girl ?

They have 4 girls that started often last season - Williams, Roderick, Woods and Mullins - plus a freshman who played some. Williams is a heck of a post who can give teams fits inside - she is very physical.  The problem for the D1 teams will be the Region - Alcoa and Gatlinburg-Pittman will both be very good.

I'd say you're right about the Regional. Better get that #1 seed and avoid those guys as long as possible.

As last season wore on, the SG freshman (about 5'10") you mention improved a great deal. I believe the virus and its restrictions during the previous summer hurt, experience wise. I have seen her run track this spring and she has impressive speed. A real competitor.

Mullins was a much improved player as a junior.

Addison Williams is an extremely tough player, following in the footsteps of her two older sisters. A fun player, with tremendous ability. My choice for team captain.

How good SG will be this year is anyone's guess. But I think they have a chance to win 20 games, at the very least.

We looked pretty decent in our camp games. A little better on offense than I thought we would be. Defense was something we weren't great at but I thought really improved over the 2 weeks of playing other teams. We went 6-2 and I think the kids believe a bit more than they did before it all started which is good.

Well...It's good to see the revival of this thread.

South Greene is a fairly young team with three new players to handle the ball along with senior Amelia Mullins, who had my vote for most improved last season. They have the talent to take the district, but I'm not counting any chickens just yet.

The team scheduled some pretty tough teams to start the year and was 3 and 7 going into the first district game of the season against a much-improved West Greene. After beating WG last night, SG is probably one of the best 4 and 7 teams in the state. I think the coaching staff wanted to challenge the team early, at the expense of the won and lost stat. It just might work.

I think the district will not be decided until later in the season. In other words, SG better take each opponent seriously. No giveaways this time around.

Best of luck to all the girls in District 1 AA.

I wanted to see SG in person but it hasn't worked out yet schedule wise. We did the exact same thing schedule wise as far as challenging and beefing it up with Science Hill and Greeneville and East. We were definitely not ready for any of that. But in the 2 conference games we have shown good improvement on defense.

The way to improve is to go against the best.

I was at Happy Valley about three years ago for the state tournament, I can't remember which whether or not it was district. The school was near the Milligan Hwy. I think it was the last time South Greene beat Grainger. I enjoyed the theater seats in the upper level of the fieldhouse. It looked like an old structure with much history.

SG and HV play a couple of times early next year. Good Luck!

I believe they held the regionals that year at HV. Yes our next district game is against you all on Jan 11. Looking forward to it hopefully we both have success between now and then.

    • Yea I agree I will say tho I was a big “ v “ fan if an  opening ever did happen I think it would’ve been good to see him have a shot coming from a power house like Oakland. I’m sure he’s learned a lot from Kevin.  I bet he would bring a really good offense scheme IMO But after all this I just dunno anymore.  Whatever happens with the rumors an such if it did come to and opening I think this messes it all up.  The board members dreams are slowly slipping away now. I haven’t lived there for awhile I just hear what I hear, but my question is would there be any good potential candidates?? That’s why I don’t understand why people want b s out so bad who else could do any better ?? IMO there’s nothing attractive about it? As I stated earlier I went to the last game last year and taking a leak in a porta Potty is pretty sad and still nothing being done they say ..
    • I have a sophomore that can do 177 (preferred) or 192. Sent you an email.
    • speaking of board members how can a man get arrested 12 days ago and still be head coaching a team in TC school system? looks like your right about the tc board members. I bet it would be different if they had a kid on the team
