That happens everywhere though.  Marion has some kids in the halls that could help tremendously, but for whatever reason don't.  As a coach, I always tried to tell the kids to play everything they could as long as their grades were in order.  Once high-school is over, all you have is regret otherwise.

It happens to an egregious level at Forrest.

MC is a solid team . They will test Trousdale and Meigs in the east. Basically a high school version of the Ravens on offense. Hard to stop the inside power runs, counters, and play action passes. They do all three well. Looked like they had a running back playing QB until the game started and he made great throws. Good touch and tight spirals and excellent ball fakes. He puts tremendous pressure on defenses.   Defense is massive up front, active at linebackers, and fast in the secondary. Several times we had a hole and our back got 2 yards on plays they usually break. #7 and 8 get a lot of the praise, deservedly, but #1 and #22 are players on defense. #22 is a great blocker too.

Rockets played hard and I believe left injury free.  They won’t see another team like that unless they fall into the semis. Forrest made MC work at times.  Rocket Offense had 1st and goal twice and only managed 3 points. When the JV went in for MC our starters marched right down the field. So in 8 quarters this season against quality defenses Forrest has scored 9 points ( six were on a trick play). In other words we do not have a TD drive against a good defense this season.

MC had a huge size advantage in the trenches but we played hard til the end; great hustle play on a late kickoff when the game was over and twice chasing MC runners down by DB's. Defense was solid against the run. A team has to play goal line D against their running game and that leads to big passing plays. Once the QB proved he could throw downfield the game was over. The only criticism against the D was the one play where we subbed a lineman in for a safety on 3rd and 5 and they hit a big passing play. Not bad to guess wrong once in 6 games though.

MC adjusted to one formation and the 2 plays we run out of it and our offense was completely shut down until their JV went in. MC was ready for the one play we run out of a one step drop and #1 made an incredible INT. Get creative. At least be able to run the play left or right. Run the slant out of a different set.

Stop taking #14 out of the game to run wildcat. You give the other team 40 plus seconds to see the substitution and plan for the 2 plays you run out of that set. Let #14 stay in the game and line up at receiver if  you don’t think he can run the RPOs. Break huddle quickly and run the play ASAP to give them less time to get ready. #14 is an athletic basketball point guard he came out his senior year and saved your A#$@2 because you didn't have a QB on the team. The kid proved he can run when he chased #7 down. Let him run. Cornersville gets their slow QB run-pass reads and it works. Use the talent you have.

#9 is the only breakaway threat on the team.  It's the OC's job to get him the ball in space.

You have two guards who are under 180 pounds. Neither is physically able to drive block a 300 pounder. You have two former lineman over 260  wearing tight end numbers who haven't caught a pass all year. If you want to run power football inside put the bigger more powerful slower lineman inside.

When to kick a FG in a football game.
Down 10 in the 4th quarter kick the FG. You are now down 1 score and have time to get the ball back.
Up 6 late in the 4th quarter kick the FG. You are now up 2 scores and the game is over.
Down 21-0 at the half; don’t kick a FG. You are still down 3 scores either way. Only thing this does is say we didn't get shut out. Huge opportunity to score a TD at end of the half and get the 2nd half kickoff and erase a 21-0 deficit.

This guy is way smarter than me. As you can see. He lets me vent on the state of the program and brings real knowledge to what actually happened. Kudos to @Salem and thanks for another great post.  He could coach circles around Eli S and we all know it.
