Westview vs. Union City

UC gambled and deferred after winning the toss which looked like a good decision for a quarter. They sold out on stopping the passing game and couldn’t stop the run to save their lives! Simpson may have had 5 completions for 50 yards but they still scored at will. Zero pass attempts by UC so Chargers just bowed up and stopped the veer all night.

That’s it in a nutshell. No diversity on offense.

The quarterback not one time threw. There was no diversity no type of balance nothing it was kinda boring to watch, didn’t help they was not getting far anyways. Their defense knew what westview was good at but forgot they can run the ball too

Stupid penalties is the key point made. Offense could move if not for stupid penalties. Marble better light one player up for costing us so many yards and possibly scores.

If you think a penalty or 2 in this game cost us from scoring then you need to watch the game again.

Exactly! It’s alright though they can get 7 points for effort. Westview needed one quarter to put this team away. It wasn’t even worth watching the second half

People think their homey’s are all that and then some.. but to see them in person & then play against Westview.. WOWSER!. It’s rare to see such teams in small rural town sports. Aficionados of the game have to appreciate such teams when they come along, even if they are on the short end of the stick. (And that’s in any sport!) Westview is rolling, & 2A is in for a treat if they get to see them play. BUT.. still, anything is possible in this glorious game of football, & anyone can beat anyone else in any given game. Dress up, line ‘em up, & play it out! And though a Dresden Lion guy.. I say to our northerly neighbors.. GOOOO CHARGERS! GO GET YA SOME GOLD Y’ALL! (One down, one game at a time!)

Just want to give the Chargers some props. My son, who plays for UC, said that the WV players showed a lot of class and sportsmanship during the game. His words “ they were the nicest team we’ve played yet”. So, that says a lot for your program.

Our kids will say the same about them, they won some fans In Trenton the night we knocked heads !

Do you think that type of offense has anything to do with low numbers at UC? I know it wins games but is it keeping some athletes from playing football? The spread is so much more enticing to skill type kids. You really need all of the athletes in a school the size of UC to play multiple sports.

We appreciate that! We are taught to show respect and sportsmanship regardless of how the other team behaves because how WV behaves will reflect on WV . It’s some schools that don’t like us but I promise we aren’t bad people.

Not at all. I think it’s the commitment that’s required to play football at UC. The off-season workouts are demanding and the summer commitment keeps a lot of kids from coming out for football.
