Week 8

It’s that time of year again to look at the 5A playoff races and see what match-ups could be coming together. Week 7 really made a lot of region races come better into focus, but there are still plenty of regions far from being decided.  This week there is not a lot of big region games but there are a lot of quality games this week.

Teams still undefeated

Memphis Central

Station Camp

Games to watch

Page vs Nolensville

Knox Central vs South Doyle*

David Crockett vs West Ridge*

Rhea Co vs Elizabethton *

Powell vs Campbell Co

Mt Juliet vs Lebanon*

Wilson Central vs Station Camp

Beech vs Springfield*

White Co vs Hillsboro

Knox Halls vs Karns*

Region 1 vs Region 2

Region 1

David Crockett is in control of their destiny with a solid win tonight against Cherokee. Mo West currently sits 2nd and only has Cherokee left to play. Then there is TN High and Daniel Boone sitting 3rd and 4th. Both these teams play in 2 weeks. Depending on how things play out we could see a 3 way tie for 2nd  with Mo West, TN High and Boone all finishing 2-2 in region play.

Region 2

This region is looking like it will come down to a week 11 showdown between Knox West and Knox Central. Both made quick work of Heritage and Cocke Co.  Sevier Co got a good win tonight against Halls. Sevier might have cemented there spot in 3rd with the win against Halls.

If the playoffs started Friday (based on current standings)

David Crockett vs Halls

Knox Central vs TN High

Mo West vs Sevier Co

Knox West vs Daniel Boone

Region 3 vs 4

Region 3

Powell has pretty much put themselves in the drivers seat for the region 3 championship with a good win over Oak Ridge. With the loss Oak Ridge falls into a 3 way tie with Campbell Co and Karns. Oak Ridge controls their one destiny if they want a home playoff game come November. Karns also has a similar path as Oak Ridge and the game with Oak Ridge could decide who finishes 2nd in the region. Campbell has a lot tougher road but technically could still win the region if they somehow upset Powell and beat Oak Ridge.

Region 4

Rhea County came away with a solid win at Walker Valley and pretty much locking up the region championship and the 1 seed. Now it comes down in two weeks with McMinn and Walker Valley playing for 2nd and a home playoff game. Ooltewah got the first win last night and punched their ticket to the playoffs.

If the playoffs started Friday (based on current standings)

Powell vs Ooltewah

Walker Valley vs Karns

Campbell Co vs McMinn Co

Rhea Co vs Oak Ridge

Region 5 vs 6

Region 5

Station Camp got a big win over Mt Juliet putting them tied up top with Green Hill for the region station camp and green hill will meet in 3 weeks for the region if both take care of business over the next few weeks. My Juliet still has a chance to finish 2nd if they beat Green Hill at the end of the year. Wilson Central currently holds 4th in the region and if the cards fall right Hillsboro and WC will play for the final playoff sport in week 11.

Region 6

Page got a key win last night with Columbia and setting up a big showdown with Nolensville next Friday for what could be the Region Championship. Columbia sits 2nd and has two very winnable games remaining in region play. That would be something if Nolensville beats Page next week and Page, Columbia, and Nolensville all finished with one lose in region play. However if Page wins then the region will pretty much be determined. Franklin Co controls its own destiny and win vs Spring Hill would put them in the playoffs.

If the playoffs started Friday (based on current standings)

Station Camp vs Franklin Co

Columbia vs Mt Juliet

Green Hill vs Nolensville

Page vs Wilson Central

Region 7 vs 8

Region 7

Springfield took a big step forward with a nice win over Henry Co. Springfield and Portland will face off in a few weeks in what could decide how the region shakes out. Ultimately I think last nights game decided the region. The game between Kenwood and Northeast in week 11 could decide the final playoff spot in Region 7

Region 8

Memphis Central and Munford have separated themselves from the rest of the region and as long as both teams take care of business. The championship will be decided in week 11 when both teams play. Dyer County controls their own destiny for 3rd. However the match up with Brighton in a few weeks could determine who finishes 3rd and 4th. Technically speaking Memphis Overton and Southwind are not out of the playoffs but they have to pull off some big wins down the stretch.

Who cancelled?

Good analytics above!

In R1, Boone and Cherokee never played due to a Covid cancellation.     Neither one will win a region game this year, so which one of them gets 4th place in R1?

Could both teams have cancelled their non region games if they were on the same night and played the game?

In region 7 Portland took a big hit loosing to Kenwood last night. They might wind up the 4 seed. Idk how tie breakers will workout.

Besides Powell, who has a solid shot to come out of the East?

    • Yep..could possibly have 3 teams ranked in top ten in the same four team district.
    • He had an opportunity to be the OC at TC without final say in the offensive gameplan. How does that work? Smh. Head Coaches are public figures regardless of the community size, and yes there are some out there, it’s irrelevant and not fair to them to name them on here. Also why is said “head coach” the head coach of the MS baseball program to begin with? Oh because no one wants it. As for the Lebanon question, I know what I’ve been told so just going off here say, some of the boosters were not happy with his roster decisions and wanted him out. Although he lead them to 20+ wins in multiple seasons
    • A head coach in the school system? No I dont think so. Head coaches are public figures in small communities. Not trying to slander, but this is an actual question. Do you know why he was forced to resign at Lebanon? This was his second chance.  He already left trousdale once and had an opportunity to come back a couple of years ago but spoiled that.
    • Are you perfect? Nope no one is, at the end of the day there are several teachers/coaches and even some in the Trousdale County school system that have DUI’s on their record. You’re correct on it being a bad mistake and it unfortunately could have ended horribly. While you consider the consequences minimal, I can assure you they are not. Ultimately I hope and have faith that he will learn from it and use it to better himself.
