In the end, we will all have to wait and see what coaches actually apply (job yet to be posted), and they will have to, then see which ones are selected by the committee (yet to be formed) and see which ones get interviews and finally which one is hired, I'm sure by now all the names mentioned on the thread know about Coach Gaddis retiring, and if they are interested, they will send in a resume or whatever they need to do. I don't look for a new head coach to be in place until January or February,

I have mentioned Coach Whitten of Betsy twice with no feedback. For the third time call hin and see what it would take to get him.

FYI, Betsy beat Greeneville tonight.

When OR hires Whitten I get to say I told ya so. Just kidding.

I’d love that hire. He applied after Blade left, but of course we hired Gaddis.

I will mention another coach that would be worth a call and conversation with is Gary Rankin. Alcoa fans are like rabid dogs foaming at the mouth wanting Nix as their head coach rather sooner than later. Rankin is a young man at heart and knows what to do to turn the program into a winner. Gary needs to realize the fans there are spoiled and don't appreciate what he has brought to the program. It's great to stay safe and bag all those trophies for a very financially funded small school playing teams that are poor as Jobe's turkey. All those wins will never be looked up too in the long run because most people will consider it going on a hunting trip at the local zoo. I say move on over to Oak Ridge where you'll be wanted plus those two school board members with the chapped butts can finally get some relief.

Rankin is gonna retire at Alcoa, has too good of a thing to leave. I do think OR would benefit in talking to him. Oakland interviewed him for their opening in 2007. While most people assumed it was gauge his own interest, he referred Oakland to a former assistant of his that immediately turned things around and laid the foundation for the program they have today. Maybe OR having a conversation with him points them to a coach they haven't really considered

I might add that this hire for Oak Ridge is similar to the one in 1981 when Emory Hale, Chick Graning and Paul Brewster left to coach at Austin Peay, leaving only two assistants on staff.  Its the same this time, since it looks like most of the assistants will have moved on as well, SO, Oak Ridge has to get this hire right, not only for the head coach, but will he bring in good coordinators and assistants to help him??  These guys do most of the actual coaching in practice and on game nights, so that is really important, Also the opportunity to name or bring in a full time strength and conditioning coach too, so as to hit the ground running in the weight room this winter.

When I mentioned Rosser a few jumped right on here and said they were happy and the wife was happy at Harvard. I was just wondering how do you make a call like that and ask if their happy. All I know is at the meeting of the minds club someone brought it up and said don't be surprised if Rosser don't come back if the right job was out there. Now let's all argue like cats and dogs over it for the next few hours. All I'm saying is pick up the phone and call to find out.

You are assuming that the call hasn't been made already.

It was, and Bryson declined.  He and his wife are happy in Boston.
