Heard maybe a senior WR transferring to private school…

Talk is the veer is not a good fit for the athletes they have currently…

Running game should be good if you RBs stay but who knows

Heard the same on the WR.  Hear a public school in Knox County public and a private school in Sevier County are in play.

He would have to move in to the zone to be eligible at another public school, and I am pretty sure he would have to move to be eligible at the private schools, too.

Yeah, the A, B, A move wont work here without a move.

What little I have got to know our new coach has been great.I have no doubt he will have us on top in no time.If you are good he will find a way for you to help the team.Ive been impressed and if parents can get behind him and just tell little Johnny to go to work they will be happy in the end.Its too bad so many kids today are taught its all about them because its so much better when you play for the right reasons.Im just glad my parents told me to get better instead taking my side when I would complain about not getting ball enough. We have some really good players and it can get good quick if we can fix or improve a few areas in yr 1.Go Wildcats

I can appreciate your excitement. He is a good coach, but I think everyone knows he is only as good as his Defensive Coordinator. He scores points but most of OR games will turn into shoot outs… if he has any players left by August

So..... a former Vol/NFL player as D coordinator isn't going to cut it?  Are you making your stand there?  With any changes to any program, there will be some turnover.  It happens.  Also, everything is new, offense and defense.  I expect a slow start to next season and finishing stronger.  But, I like what I see out of this staff so far.

All I could find out was Spring Practice is May 2 - 19.

Those of us who are going to follow Harden Valley, their Spring Practice is May 4 - 20.

Spring practice starts today.  today and tomorrow are in shorts.  Full pads on Monday.  Kids are carpooling to Blankenship.  Hard to believe we can't afford a bus.  smh.  One car accident (God forbid) will be way more costly than a bus in many more ways than one.  That exact thing happened at DB one time.  The band gets the game field on Thursdays at DB and the team used to carpool to a private facility for Thursdays practice.  One of the cars full of players got in a car accident and that was the end of carpooling.  Get a bus !!!! No brainer.

Out of curiosity, didn't the Vol/NFL player DC come from Catholic? Why didn't he stay? Is there a lot of trust in him because of his playing career? Playing and coaching do not always go hand-in-hand.

Didn't that same D coordinator get demoted at Catholic?

We will have enough players left to beat Clinton.

    • Personally I was pulling for Lee Hammonds to get another shot. He’s earned it!
    • Tyler Williams was the logical choice to be named head football. He served as the Highlanders’ strength coach and offensive coordinator.
    • I went to practice yesterday and liked what I saw for the most part. Derek and crew have done a good job during the off-season. I was very impressed with the size of some of those boys on the offensive line. My only regret was one of the boys I was really pulling for to have a good year was dismissed from the team. I have to applaud the coaches for setting examples for the others, no one is bigger than the team. One other thing, I was hoping with that big rain we got this week some of that  yellow paint would dissolve but it didn't.
    • Couple of thoughts: 1.  I just don't understand all the intricacies in TSSAA transfer rules anymore.    William Blount had a kid that played the final part of the basketball season with them this year,  that played at Hardin Valley last year, and played football for Bearden this year.  I say that to say, I know the coaches and the AD and the Principal at WB and I will never believe they would do something they knew was wrong.  They are men of character.  I BELIEVE the same thing about the coaches and administration at Maryville.  Call me gullible, but these are men and women of integrity in my experiences with them. 2.  Much like the transfer of the Clemmer kid a couple of years ago, with Smith, the football team is getting a huge boost, but the impact on the basketball team will be just as great or maybe even greater.  With Smith playing post, it frees the Sigmund kid who will be coming back from injury, to play more with his face to the basket.  The Rebels basketball squad in my mind, will be "the program" in East Tennessee next year.
    • Could not agree more. After this year, McKenzie's new coach will have their work cut out for them. Staying in 1A would definitely be a huge plus. Most years there is not much difference in the top 5- 1A and 2A teams across the state, but after the top 5 or so there is normally a huge drop off for 1A. Regular season region play is a lot easier for 1A in West TN  right now.
