Chop/cut are all the same to me but I do understand what you are saying.

yeah, between the tackles if you go straight to the knees it is perfectly legal.  I remember that OR vs. Rhea with Middleton.  He was playing D tackle, got chopped first three plays of the game.  He took himself out and said "F that I'm done".  He never played another snap of defense for Miner.  lol

That player quit on his team?

Shocking.

Being that Rhea County is a Wing-T team, and extremely well-coached Wing-T team, I would imagine that they will execute all cut blocks legally. They may add a few to their scheme to factor for Nolan, but cut blocks are most likely already a fundamental of their offense; a technique their coaches have been teaching how to do legally for years.  I could be wrong, but I don't believe that will be an issue Friday night.

Also, most people use the terms cut blocks and chop blocks interchangeably, but the actual rule book does define them differently.  A chop block is what most people call a "high-low" block- where one blocker cuts a defensive player that is already engaged with another blocker.

Oh ya Rhea county is great at it, and they do it almost every play.  Perfectly legal.  Will the refs from this area see it the same?  No team locally runs the wing T, and the local crews have been tuff on teams chop/cut blocking this year.

I understand.  Knox County officials have been throwing flags on this all season.  Powell has gotten several in there favor for teams chop/cut blocking immediately at the snap is all I'm saying.

That would probably indicate there were 2 men engaged with the d lineman. The rule is very vague as you can see, but it is intended to apply to a single blocker. If it's 2 guys doing a High/Low then that's no bueno.

I would fully expect WN to get a heavy dose of solo submarine blocking all night long.

I was under the impression that the officiating crews always came from other areas during the playoffs.

Its a rule similar to pass interference in the way that there are numerous acts that are illegal that all fall under the same penalty name.  There are a few other specifications too dealing with angles. For example, The endman on a line of scrimmage can't cut down at an angle to set an edge, and you have to cut "between 10 and 2 o'clock". The blocker has to be in a 3-point stance (that may have changed) you can't be down field or open field (that one may only be youth football- can't remember). Point being that just because a ref calls illegal chop block, doesn't always mean a high-low or it wasn't off the snap of the ball, there are several illegal blocks that all fall under the same umbrella.

Seems to me, Powell can just watch film from Rhea Co vs Alcoa and Elizabethton to game plan this one. Follow those blueprints, and things should turn out ok.

Yeah but just because they can watch it and understand the scheme doesn't mean  that they can actually execute it and be good at it in a week.  The hardest part is simulating it in practice to give your defense a good look at it.  Simulating the speed and precision of the Rhea offense can't be done by a high school scout team especially in three practices.

Alcoa played assignment  football well against Rhea Co. .......props to the Master Mind at shutting down the WingT!

    • Can’t believe no one posted on this and gave this team the recognition they deserve!  AAU team Tennessee went to Iowa and done what no other team had ever done and took down Iowa and the strength by holds in AAU nationals!!! Yes McCallie had a solid group of 8th graders and they showed up but we had an AAU team that wrestled their butt off and we didn’t just place in the top 5 … we won the whole dang thing! Yes the NHSCa’s were happening and that may have hurt but never once had TN ever won the national folkstyle duals national championship!!  It was a team effort and some amazing young kids!!!    We are not a fly over state any more… on a side note : we have any even better team for cadet National's team duals in Utah and have a chance to sweep both duals which would be unprecedented!!! However the funds aren’t there and USA isn’t in th position to help these kids get to utah as was AAU that got us to Iowa! Stay tuned for some oppertunities to help make a statement for Tn!!!
    • Right cause you know me, you may know my name, what I post on here, what I say on our shows, but you don’t know who I am. And if your class ring doesn’t say Trousdale County high school, quite frankly I don’t care what you say.
    • I agree but I will say I’m not hiding behind a screen name, I’m easy to find and not hard to miss lol
    • Dont get your reference, but okay. You calling someone a hypocrite is ironic given your track record.
    • Not gonna lie, it’s been hard watching my alma mater go through a tough stretch on the grid iron. But this thread is even worse. y’all sound like a bunch of jr high mean girls, popping off, while hiding behind screen names.
