MAHS @ Westview

This will be a great game. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was a 2 touchdown difference either way.  MAHS has a beast of a defense and speed everywhere. Westview will be Westview and have opportunities and make plays but MAHS has the speed to limit the big plays. Can Westview contain Cam Miller and Brown? It will be a challenge.

Im going to have to go with MAHS 16 Westview 21

In my opinion, the winner of this one is the future 2A state champ.

Agree. This one is for the state championship.

MAHS is very talented team but I do not think that they have seen an offense like Westview has. They have not played anyone that throws the ball around like Westview. Heck nobody in 2A has seen an offense like that. Imo Westview will win this game by 2tds and go on and win the 2A title this year. If MAHS is going to win this game they are going to have to pressure Simpson and be able to hold up for 4 quarters in the secondary. Pressuring Simpson is a risky proposition. If you don't get to him then he will tear your apart with his feet forcing the secondary to come up and try to make a tackle. Doing that will lead to open receivers. MAHS will have to be very disciplined on defense or it will be a long night.

Stop… The closest thing they have seen offensively to Westview is Brighton. Brighton isn’t shabby on offense either. People said last week Huntingdon will win by two+ touchdowns because “MAHS hasn’t seen the physicality like Huntingdon” and “they’ll give up and be tired in the fourth quarter.” Well, they were wrong.
MAHS is going to be fine in this. You’re basically not giving them a shot to win this game, and that’s wrong. MAHS can beat Westview on so many ways. If Simpson has an off night, then Westview will probably be heading home. The margin for error for Westview is thin in this game. I do believe MAHS is going to draw something up on defense that’ll create confusion. My key to the game will come down to 4-5 plays in the game, that’s it. Im not saying MAHS is going to win the game, but knowing that the best player (to me) is Miller when he steps on the field, I know MAHS is feeling confident. Miller can effect the game on all three phases of the game. Even though Simpson is legit, he’s not going to be on the field for half the game.

I think MAHS can win the game but I also feel like Westview offense will cause them alot of problems. Westview is totally different than Huntingdon. The offense they run is difficult to stop at the high school level. I fully expect this to be a great game with Westview winning by 2 tds. The winner of this game will be the 2A state champ. I just think this is Westview year.

    • Personally I was pulling for Lee Hammonds to get another shot. He’s earned it!
    • Tyler Williams was the logical choice to be named head football. He served as the Highlanders’ strength coach and offensive coordinator.
    • I went to practice yesterday and liked what I saw for the most part. Derek and crew have done a good job during the off-season. I was very impressed with the size of some of those boys on the offensive line. My only regret was one of the boys I was really pulling for to have a good year was dismissed from the team. I have to applaud the coaches for setting examples for the others, no one is bigger than the team. One other thing, I was hoping with that big rain we got this week some of that  yellow paint would dissolve but it didn't.
    • Couple of thoughts: 1.  I just don't understand all the intricacies in TSSAA transfer rules anymore.    William Blount had a kid that played the final part of the basketball season with them this year,  that played at Hardin Valley last year, and played football for Bearden this year.  I say that to say, I know the coaches and the AD and the Principal at WB and I will never believe they would do something they knew was wrong.  They are men of character.  I BELIEVE the same thing about the coaches and administration at Maryville.  Call me gullible, but these are men and women of integrity in my experiences with them. 2.  Much like the transfer of the Clemmer kid a couple of years ago, with Smith, the football team is getting a huge boost, but the impact on the basketball team will be just as great or maybe even greater.  With Smith playing post, it frees the Sigmund kid who will be coming back from injury, to play more with his face to the basket.  The Rebels basketball squad in my mind, will be "the program" in East Tennessee next year.
    • Could not agree more. After this year, McKenzie's new coach will have their work cut out for them. Staying in 1A would definitely be a huge plus. Most years there is not much difference in the top 5- 1A and 2A teams across the state, but after the top 5 or so there is normally a huge drop off for 1A. Regular season region play is a lot easier for 1A in West TN  right now.
