Upperman radio guys congratulated Elizabethton but said the didn't necessarily earn it tonight.    Said Upperman made too many turnovers and mistakes.     Not sure what to make of that..... sour grapes?    or an element of truth to it?      Only someone who was at the game can answer this for sure, not us guys listening on the radio.

We turned the ball over on the first kickoff that came to us and for some reason we threw the ball to start off our first drive and of course it was an interception. But the Betsy defense was nasty. They earned every bit of the victory.

Sour grapes....  don’t want to eat crow after their pregame show last night.  Disciplined football teams don’t make mistakes,  we didn’t make mistakes.  They did.  Their qb is an athlete,  but definitely not a passer.  Their defense was tough,  but didn’t stop us when they needed to.  Good game from Upperman,  very good football team.  The better team won the game,  despite what their radio guys think.

I’m not joking,  upperman has some very good athletes.  That is a state caliber team next year.  Clean up the mistakes and don’t get away from what you do best.  Hind sight is 20/20 but I’m sure uppermans coach will kick himself the whole ride home.  Those boys have nothing to hold their heads down for though,  tough bunch of kids.

Great win for “Lizbethton” very good team and very deserving of this win. Hopefully next year we will see you in Baxter and make a better game of it!

    • The situations at both Heritage and WB have far less to do with the coaches than they have to do with the culture of the parents, schools & school district. Years of horrible facilities and lack of support are difficult to overcome. Add to that the option for parents to send kids to nearby school where the "grass is greener." Every year the effects of these compound on themselves and dig the hole the programs are in even deeper. The programs have been in a downward spiral where the culture makes it hard to be successful. The lack of success then just reinforces the negative culture which then makes it even harder to succeed.  The new fieldhouses are a step in the right direction but so much more is needed. Reeves is a high energy, hardworking guy who loves kids and will work his tail off to try to make WB successful. Hopefully the hole isn't too deep already.  The hole is even deeper at Heritage so it's going to take someone really exceptional to turn it around. Don't know where you're going to find someone willing to take it on.  Hammontree is a quality person who had a huge, positive impact on a lot of kids at Heritage. With the types of kids and the backgrounds they come from at Heritage, helping kids win at life was far more important than winning ball games.
