I am still here. My point has all along been that Alcoa should move up in classification and play teams more competitive.  Wouldn't you like to see them play games that not over at halftime or even before the game starts. Surely you would rather see games like Maryville or even West this year than games that are over by halftime just like the semi-final game this past week. I am not whining or jealous, I just simply asked why not move up and play games that are more competitive. I am sure players enjoyed the Maryville game more than any other this past season.

Okay, I’ll play your silly game. Who exactly in 4A do you think would be a better matchup for Alcoa? Yes, most of us would really like to challenge world killers on a weekly basis. However, reality, along with past and present moves, as soon as Alcoa moves to 4A, most who can jump would either go to 5A or down to 3A. Several of the past teams that Alcoa has battled now are in 4A. It’s not because they want to… Before this season started Alcoa had verbal 2 year agreements with Betsy, Greeneville and Anderson County. But, when it came time to sign up, all three decided to pull out. Not knocking them at all. It’s their choice, but they decided not to play for a reason. Then, we tried to replace the Covid excuse backouts (2 regular season Region games) with almost 50 schools ranging from Powell, Central, Campbell County, a few Kentucky teams along with NC teams. All declined….

It is my belief that if Alcoa moved to 4A (which is the highest classification that we could jump) most would run that could. The proof is in the current actions of most 4A teams. Some may deny it, but it just a stone cold fact. After those teams bolt, Alcoa would be left with a weaker Region schedule than they have now and would also add a couple of hours driving distance to NE TN and Chatt to fill a region schedule. That would be a stupid move at the moment.

Im all for teams being able to play where they want. However, to shut you clowns up the only answer would be for the TSSAA to mandate teams play where their attendance puts them. Therefore, not jumping classifications. So what do you want???

This will probably be wayyyyy over your head to understand, but it is what it is.

Have a good night!:thumb:

    • Personally I was pulling for Lee Hammonds to get another shot. He’s earned it!
    • Tyler Williams was the logical choice to be named head football. He served as the Highlanders’ strength coach and offensive coordinator.
    • I went to practice yesterday and liked what I saw for the most part. Derek and crew have done a good job during the off-season. I was very impressed with the size of some of those boys on the offensive line. My only regret was one of the boys I was really pulling for to have a good year was dismissed from the team. I have to applaud the coaches for setting examples for the others, no one is bigger than the team. One other thing, I was hoping with that big rain we got this week some of that  yellow paint would dissolve but it didn't.
    • Couple of thoughts: 1.  I just don't understand all the intricacies in TSSAA transfer rules anymore.    William Blount had a kid that played the final part of the basketball season with them this year,  that played at Hardin Valley last year, and played football for Bearden this year.  I say that to say, I know the coaches and the AD and the Principal at WB and I will never believe they would do something they knew was wrong.  They are men of character.  I BELIEVE the same thing about the coaches and administration at Maryville.  Call me gullible, but these are men and women of integrity in my experiences with them. 2.  Much like the transfer of the Clemmer kid a couple of years ago, with Smith, the football team is getting a huge boost, but the impact on the basketball team will be just as great or maybe even greater.  With Smith playing post, it frees the Sigmund kid who will be coming back from injury, to play more with his face to the basket.  The Rebels basketball squad in my mind, will be "the program" in East Tennessee next year.
    • Could not agree more. After this year, McKenzie's new coach will have their work cut out for them. Staying in 1A would definitely be a huge plus. Most years there is not much difference in the top 5- 1A and 2A teams across the state, but after the top 5 or so there is normally a huge drop off for 1A. Regular season region play is a lot easier for 1A in West TN  right now.
