Why do you say that? I’d say that’s exactly what he would do if one came open that he could win at. Goodpasture was rumored to reach out to him and without a doubt LA would too if Dilfer leaves.

Serious question for conversation. Wasn’t Knox Catholic open just last year??He had his time in to retire then. If he was going to leave Alcoa to go to a private school seems that was a perfect opportunity. Wonder why he didn’t go?  The private schools you mentioned are in the Nashville area a couple hours away. Heck he wouldn’t even have to sell his house to go to Catholic. And they are already competitive in D2. He could put them over the top. Him going to a private school just doesn’t make sense.

He has it made at Alcoa.  Alcoa dominates 3A like no School has ever dominated.  Only negative at Alcoa is there are fans that give him a rough time after Alcoa loses to Maryville.

Gary Rankin has led Alcoa to 13 State Titles in 16 seasons. He has elevated the Alcoa program. He has made Alcoa much tougher for Maryville to beat. But to listen to a lot of Alcoa fans they can't stand Rankin and that is the truth.

How would murvul fans feel if they never could get past Oakland ? Year after year ending at 14-1? What if Oakland was 5 miles away? What if you had as much talent,  but most of the time came up short? Would that be acceptable? Year after year? You would be happy with that? Your lying to yourself if you would.....

Funny thing, is us Alcoa fans are ALREADY hearing the grumbling about Coach Hunt...FROM the rebels fan base and community.

I personally don't know anyone that is unhappy with Derek Hunt. We look at Oakland as a team in a perfect situation that is picking up 4 and 5 star players left and right. Two of your starters on offense came from Riverdale last year and the two superstar running backs came from private schools in Nashville. It's a tough situation to be in but has nothing to do with Derek Hunt. I'm 100% positive many old heads would cut ties with Maryville if all the sudden he wasn't the coach there anymore and that would about sum up everyone on the Maryville side of the thread.

They can't stand Rankin because a lot of them have never been disciplined before. Once he's gone a year or two you'll start to see the strings start unravelling. Mark my words and revisit this two years after he is gone.

    • I think the OC is a guy the he brought from Fulton with him. I am not sure though. I have heard a lot of conflicting information. It seems like a couple of coaches that he hired have since been let go.

    • If someone needed their grades pumped up surley it would have to be for someone needing it to get to another level. If your intending on going to work right after high school it wouldn't matter. Why would someone in their right mind think if they screwed it up in high school that their ready for college. It has to be for an athlete to get them over the fence to get in and from that point the school their going to will cheat them through the rest of the way for their athletic skills just like the rest.
    • The new school will be on that road behind Home Depot next to a church. I'm wondering if this could take from Greenback or could it be the end of Greenback, they only have 200 students.
    • Yeah it will take the county kids in that area that were going to lenior city. They will move down to 4a I think
