Don’t know, and frankly don’t care. But, the principle of it all is what’s ridiculous. You have 3 guys who played for OR, coached for OR, and went to school @ OR, not to mention 1 having a son that went to and starred at OR - coaching at a school that is OR’s arch nemesis, while teaching at OR. Whether Clinton has any positions available or not is beside the point really. Like I said, RIDICULOUS. If you love them that much, then wait for a position at Clinton to open, or better yet, just leave the OR school system altogether and go teach somewhere else.

I totally agree with what you are saying in the above post.  However, it appears as if your problem lies with the principal and school board for allowing someone to occupy a teaching position while actually coaching down the street at another school.  From the outside looking in Oak Ridge may not only need a new athletic director and head football coach but also a new principal.

Probably a long shot after his unfortunate ordeal @ Catholic, but what about Steve Matthews, former Catholic Coach? I doubt he would be in consideration for the job after what took place when he was Coach there, but keep in mind, him and Gaddis are really close, and JG coached him when he was at Tullahoma. Just throwing it out there.

I think Steve Matthews would have a good shot at Tullahoma when John Olive hangs it up. 1987 semi-final team QB for the Wildcats.  I would welcome him back.

I doubt the principal can change it. Sounds like an administrative or school board decision.
And rumor has it that an assistant will be going to HVA to coach while continuing to teach at OR. Another teaching position wasted.

All school board positions throughout the United States of America are elected positions!  It may be time for the people at Oak Ridge to pull the lever for someone else if they are not being represented as they so wish!  If the citizens of Oak Ridge begin blowing up the phones, email addresses, Twitter accounts, Facebook accounts, etc… of the school board members they will more than likely get the policy changed. One thing that politicians hate most, other than not receiving a large envelope is negative publicity.

You nailed it about loyalty .Im glad to know other people see it and Im not crazy

I get the loyalty thing, but I don't really care about that.  Those guys can go "coach" anywhere they want.  I don't think their "coaching" abilities are anything to worry about though.  It's taking up the teaching jobs and being paid to poach our players.  Like I have said many times before.  Only in Oak Ridge would we allow something like this to happen.  It's idiotic.

I agree with you Cat but this has been going on for years. The only way to stop it is have it in writing in the contract they sign when hiring in, you must teach and coach in the same school system. Oak Ridge School System.  Ain't gonna happen though. Probably a law somewhere against that.

Apparently earlier today there was a social media threat (by whom, I have no idea) by someone to shoot up the school.  I drove by earlier and there were some police cars outside the school. Hopefully they got it taken care of. You just never know this day and age. Lots of crazies out there.

Not taken care of just yet.  Still on lockdown.  Rumor is they found the kid that made the threat, escorted him out in shiny bracelets.   Now looking for another kid involved and possibly armed.  Definitely scary for those with a kid in the bldg.

Definitely. Not the sharpest tool in the shed to announce it all over social media,  if you were planning on shooting up the place, but most likely a good thing that they did. Yeah, I’m sure you were freaking out with lil man there. I know I would’ve been.

This is a right to work state.  They can be let go at any time.  I would give them the choice.  Teach at OR or coach elsewhere.  Not doing both.  Trust me, Dr. Adams knows that  this is messed up, holding us back, and must be changed.  Like anything else, I'm sure there is a complicated and convoluted process to make a simple common sense necessary change  to something that's not right.  But that's the way we do things in the Ridge.

The bottom line is that Oak Ridge being good at football is not a priority to city leaders and our school board like it once was.  It's sad.

You're correct this is a right to work state but there is also laws that apply to teachers depending on how long they have been there.  Do these teacher's have tenure?  If a teacher has tenure then you can't just let them go at any time and have to have just cause (Mostly failing observations or below standard test scores).  There is a teacher shortage along with a sub shortage also right now so letting go of a teacher isn't in a lot of systems cards. (You would have to make sure the new assistant coach is certified to teach the vacancy of that teacher).  It's a lot more complicated than just saying "Sorry your're fired".

I don't agree with it but it happens in a lot of school system's just not Oak Ridge
