As much as you have posted saying Rankin ain't coming or why would he come has me thinking you are very worried he IS coming to SP.Roy Dillard done told you that that Rankin man interviewed with that Hill woman.Why would he interview if he wasn't thinking about taking the job?Not sure where your from but in South Pittsburg an interview means someone IS wanting the job.

Is getting Rankin SP’s only shot at being decent next season?  I would think the tag team coaching staff that took what could have been disappointing season last year and turned it into a season to remember and also built relationships with the players that would strengthen confidence going into next season would have first shot at coming back in some type of HC/Assistant HC capacity. 
is there something more to the story?

I’d have to agree… I would also think that Stone would be a much better long term choice than Rankin due to age!

Heath Grider likely could have been head coach in 2013 but didn't really want to at the time.  He wasn't on the staff at the beginning of the 2021 season.  He stepped in as a Pirate.  As far as Stone goes, that story is his to tell.

I admit that Rankin's age is a concern.  I can see 3 years out of him, 5 at the most.

Both Rankin and his wife have said that he will never retire, as he has no hobbies. Now, that doesn’t mean that he won’t take a year off between jobs….

Good luck with the continued coaching search. Maybe there is some truth amongst the tall tales being told at the coffee shops
