You're right, I remember in the 70's both Devil teams (blue and green) playing against DB in Kingsport.     In those days DB usually won by 30+ if I remember correctly.

Can't speak for the Blue Devil's but the Greene Devil's never lost by 30+ to DB in the 70's

1970 16-Oct Greeneville 7-15L

1971 15-Oct Kingsport 0-15L

1972 13-Oct Greeneville 14-28L

1973 19-Oct Kingsport 7-13L

1974 18-Oct Greeneville 0-10L

1975 17-Oct Kingsport 0-13L

1976 15-Oct Greeneville 0-24L

Yep, those were some close games.     I must have been thinking of the Blue Devils, although a couple of their games were close too:

1976 20-0
1975 16-7
1974 37-7
1973 43-0
1972 12-7
1971 25-0
1970 21-0
1969 41-6

I remember as a 9th grader before that 1976 game, they were playing a tape in the weight room that was supposed to have been sent from Kingsport.Probably something one of our own coaches made up,ha. Anyway, the Tribe done what was said on the tape, even if the Devils were fired up.

Have not kept up with Greeneville thread this year. So wondering how well the Devil's will be this year? I know one thing is for sure the Mavs are loaded. No doubt Greeneville will always be ready each year but have the feeling they want be quite as good as recently. But of course that's a feeling.

Unfortunately you’ve never been right about those so called feelings lmao

Well we will have to wait and see.

Some song just another year Mavs in flight, If you keep betting on them maybe one day it will come true for you.

Greeneville will always have athletes and speed with how the program is ran.  We return  5 starters on O (QB, 2 OL,2WR) and 5 on D (1 LB, 2DL, 2DB).  They have Dabbs who hold D1 offers and return their leading tackler off of last years team that will be a Junior and has been to South Carolina's and Florida State Junior Day Camps in Dickson (His dad signed with Mississippi State out of high school).  I've heard the hype around AC like every year after their 7 on 7 tournaments but luckily 7 on 7 isn't football.

Not enough swipes. You don't have what it takes this year to make a deep run. However the Mavs are loaded. We have a new Defensive Coach and should be the golden key. We are the team to beat. Say all you want but even the retuning players is clearly not enough to challenge the Mavs. The Mavs have A Beast and A monster at running back as I am sure you have heard about about them then we unleash and the Aerial show begins. Secondary defense is awesome. The QB this year will not have time to scramble and get away as in past losses. Fast DLINE and strong. It's heating up now but it's going to get much hotter when kickoff starts for the Mavs. Good luck to Greeneville when we meet!

Pretty rich for someone to say "You don't have what it takes this year to make deep run" and "We are the team to beat" when you have never won a state championship in football and the team you speak of hasn't beaten Greeneville since 2005 and even couldn't beat us in 2020 when we were down in your eyes too.  Hope you all have approved a ton since that 45-7 thumping Betsy gave you because the Devils aren't falling off like that.

Everyone knows about Noe, Vowell,  and Martinez along with your new D coordinator since he would come and meet up with Greeneville's coaches in the summer to go over schemes when he was the head coach at Oneida (Really good pick up, I will give you that).  Secondary Awesome?  Maybe for who the Mavs normally play but when they face a team that can pass it's not been pretty (Powell last years and Betsy in the play-offs).  I think you have those Maverick Color glasses on again this year it seems

I knew I get a rise out of you. Lol. No It's definitely not the year again IMO...for upper NE. I am going out on limb and going for the Gold this year. We still have 2 months and the defense coach will have that secondary shinning. OL no doubt will have to be the best ever.

I am on cloud 9 with this group of Mavericks and Chadwell opening the offense as he started in 2013.

Full steam ahead this year and I know Greeneville does well adjusting good the second half of the year much like OR have always done toward the deep run. We will have to wait and see. I will say your right for many years I have been fired up but nothing ever like this year!

From what I can see AC has not been past the 3rd round since 1996.    Why do you think this year is going to be different?      And I am not roasting your team, my team is lucky to win a playoff game each year, just wondering why all of a sudden AC is going to be such a force to be reckoned with.

They have just all you need to make a full run this year. Have not done a lot of research but still researching. I think many top notch teams are not as good IMO. And I feel the Mavs IMO have the best player combination in a long while, if ever. I think they should be able to mix it up with any team and come out on top this time around. Not sure about West teams but they have not been reloading good against the east.

    • Personally I was pulling for Lee Hammonds to get another shot. He’s earned it!
    • Tyler Williams was the logical choice to be named head football. He served as the Highlanders’ strength coach and offensive coordinator.
    • I went to practice yesterday and liked what I saw for the most part. Derek and crew have done a good job during the off-season. I was very impressed with the size of some of those boys on the offensive line. My only regret was one of the boys I was really pulling for to have a good year was dismissed from the team. I have to applaud the coaches for setting examples for the others, no one is bigger than the team. One other thing, I was hoping with that big rain we got this week some of that  yellow paint would dissolve but it didn't.
    • Couple of thoughts: 1.  I just don't understand all the intricacies in TSSAA transfer rules anymore.    William Blount had a kid that played the final part of the basketball season with them this year,  that played at Hardin Valley last year, and played football for Bearden this year.  I say that to say, I know the coaches and the AD and the Principal at WB and I will never believe they would do something they knew was wrong.  They are men of character.  I BELIEVE the same thing about the coaches and administration at Maryville.  Call me gullible, but these are men and women of integrity in my experiences with them. 2.  Much like the transfer of the Clemmer kid a couple of years ago, with Smith, the football team is getting a huge boost, but the impact on the basketball team will be just as great or maybe even greater.  With Smith playing post, it frees the Sigmund kid who will be coming back from injury, to play more with his face to the basket.  The Rebels basketball squad in my mind, will be "the program" in East Tennessee next year.
    • Could not agree more. After this year, McKenzie's new coach will have their work cut out for them. Staying in 1A would definitely be a huge plus. Most years there is not much difference in the top 5- 1A and 2A teams across the state, but after the top 5 or so there is normally a huge drop off for 1A. Regular season region play is a lot easier for 1A in West TN  right now.
