There a few of these in the state! Why hasn’t TSSAA looked into this?

What is there to look into?  You really think a public school or even private school is going over to say Germany and recruiting these kids?

Schools who have them that play sports have to show TSSAA documentation of the Foreign Exchange paperwork and who they are living with on that program.

No one is going to Germany, France, Italy, etc. to "scout" the Foreign Exchange students.  They list on their application what their hobbies/activities are - so you know if you are getting someone that is interested in playing basketball/tennis/soccer, etc.    Sometimes they list how many years they have played the sport.  Some come to the US and are really good - and some are not that good.  It's not a very easy process for the student (lots of paperwork, over $10,000 fee, away from family) or host family (disruption to everyday life) - but it usually ends up being very rewarding for all.  Some communities have more families willing to host.  Greene Co. gets a lot of foreign exchange students because there is a representative who works for the International Exchange program who lives here - so obviously he is going to place students in the Greene Co. area if possible.  In the past he has also placed students in Maryville, Elizabethton, JC, Kingsport, etc.

The Greene County Representative from what I’ve seen over the years recruits specifically for North Greene.

False, he is a big time supporter of Chuckey Doak. When he gets word that there will be host families and exchange students, he calls around and sees which school has host families. NG always ends up being the school that has people willing to host them. If people want to complain about it then they need to be willing to host one. Nobody was saying anything a few years ago when NG had some and they weren’t very good.

It’s recruitment and it’s been going on for a few years now. So it should be investigated. The only complaint is that it shouldn’t be allowed.

Please tell me how hosting a Foreign Exchange student is recruiting?  How is it fair to tell a student "Hey you can't play sports like every other student here, even though you have to abide by the same rules because you are not from America".  Like it has been said before non of these high school coaches are going to Germany, Spain, France, Etc. over the summer and recruiting kids back to the states.  You are making yourself look like a Clown

    • Why would the tax payers be responsible for paying for only a coach? In recent years with all the theft from various programs in schools from different programs with booster clubs (not just sports) the State of TN has made alot of rules surrounding booster clubs and how they handle money.  I have two documents to review, 1 is 40 pages from the state comptroller and the other is 37 pages from my district, so I can consider starting a booster club for my middle school program. It has been too much trouble in the past for the other coaches.  There is no way there needs to be an adult in the school building for 7 hours a day with no responsibilities except coaching.
    • The only thing that was said at half time of the 45-0 game was Coach Story, he said: "I know y'all have been out there a lot, but kick-off team, y'all need to get down there faster!" Then he and the other coaches proceeded to go into the coaches office and we all went nuts!  It was the only time I can ever remember coaches not saying anything at half time. Definitely a great memory!!!
