Not sure who won OW in A, but most dominant was Kodiak Cannedy in small schools

Kodiak (according to track) has pinned his way to 4 consecutive championships. Shows only 2 kids, one his freshman yr in 126 finals and one his sophomore yr in 145 finals) even made it to the 2nd period.

I think it should’ve gone to Bradford. That bracket at heavyweight wasn’t near the bracket at 126.

Shires was undefeated, amazing season, well deserved.

Let’s discuss criteria for the Outstanding Wrestler Award at the TSSAA state tournament.  

1.  Is it the wrestler that has gone undefeated throughout the season?  That’s great but what about the kids that never wrestle anyone out of a 50 mile radius vs the kids that have been to Ironman, Beast of The East, 5 Counties, etc…

2.  Is it the truly the best wrestler at the state tournament?

3.  In the years gone by it was given to the low or unseeded wrestler than won the tournament

Nothing against Shires but the award is Outstanding Wrestler of the tournament, not OW of the year.

Honestly, I think the one who wins the toughest bracket should get it. Also adding in the fact that Bradford hadn’t beaten Fowler or Lipsey at all during the season only to beat them both when it mattered adds to it too.

I don’t know what criteria they use for it is anymore. Some years it feels more like a Highschool career award. Other years it’s a popularity contest. The year it didn’t go to Tyler Seally from Science Hill was an absolute travesty. He won a state title and didn’t surrender a single point in the entire tournament. Congratulations to Sammy Shires for this years award.

138 had 5 returning medalist.  Don't know if any other AA brackets had that many, doubt it.  126 and 138 were the toughest brackets in my opinion.  Every year this conversation is discussed by those that feel someone else should have won it.   He earned it.
