cbg
I have noticed that a few states are now allowing a team to enter two wrestlers per weight classification for the individual state tournament series. To eliminate a team double dipping on team points it's my understanding that a team must designate who the scorer would be before the district/region tournament begins. Now this philosophy may really be a way to promote and grow the sport of wrestling without watering down the competition.

mat73557
How exactly will this promote and grow wrestling?

I would most definitely be for this and even extend it to having all athletes being able to score. They do it already in track & field so I'm sure it could work for wrestling. I feel it would encourage less weight cutting, boost numbers (and revenue) and I'm sure there are more than a few teams in Tennessee who have more than one student athlete at a certain weight who could legitimately compete for a spot in the state tournament. Hamblin
Michigan has been doing this for some time now.
RMC
Dang....if more than 1 could score.....Collins Hill would have come in 1st and 2nd back in the day....used to wrestle the JV in the state duals up until the finals....probably could have won with the JV most years. Ah..the good old days....
sx1234
Tennessee if the first state I've lived in that does not allow this. If you want to keep the seeding criteria for the state tournament being based on previous years medalists, than this needs to happen! If a stud freshman at 106 can't make the lineup because the team has a senior state champ, let him compete and maybe finish 4th or 5th, that way next year he isn't such a bracket buster.

FYI then TSSAA has never seeded the state tournament. What they use is a separation method. I for one truly wish that they would seed the tournament even if they did nothing more than use track wrestling.
durdon
This is a great idea and it would help grow the sport.

CoachKramer
Michigan has done this for over 15 years. can send 14 wrestlers to districts. with no more than 2 in a weight class and all of them can score. you have 14 scorers regardless. ive seen teammates wrestle each other for state titles. ive brought this up for years at the coaches meeting at the state tournament and nothing. this was the first year i did not speak about this because it will probably never happen
