RocketHouse
Rice Named Head Coach At Summertown A press release from Summertown High read: We are excited to announce Coach Rick Rice as our next head football coach. Coach Rice comes to us via Rockvale High School where he has spent the last 3 seasons building their program from the ground up. Playing in arguably the toughest Region in the state (Region 4-6A), Coach Rice was able to take Rockvale to the TSSAA playoffs in just 3 seasons of existence. Coach Rice will be entering his 32nd year as a head coach. He has amassed an overall record of 211-140. Coach Rice spent 23 of his years at the helm of Wayne County High School, where he was able to capture the 2011 Class A State Championship. Over the course of his 31 seasons, Coach Rice’s teams have advanced to the playoffs 25 times, and captured 10 Region Championships. Coach Rice has also had 5 players nominated for Mr. Football, with 3 winning the coveted award. A former player and graduate of Austin Peay, Coach Rice is certified in Business Education. “I’m excited and proud to be the next football coach at Summertown High School! I’m going to a place where the community gets behind their school and student athletes! It’s a school with great tradition and I hope to continue the success that football has had since it began. One of the appealing things about this job is the vision for the future of the Summertown Eagle football program. I want to be a part of that! Go Eagles!” Please help us welcome Coach Rice to Eagle Nation! Edited March 16, 2022 by Salem .

Vandychris
Im blown away that he would walk away from Rockvale after taking a brand new program to the playoffs in just 3 years. He was building something special there.

For anyone who says to the small school program being held back by a mediocre coach "who are you going to hire"? You never know when a Coach Rang or Coach Rice will make a move. This is the 2nd year in a row a 6A Rutherford County head coach has dropped down to Region 5 2A. 11 hours ago, GeneralForrest said: doesnt do much for this year but long term its good If he gets there in time for spring practice and finds a QB he can make a difference in year 1. He has a top running back and a top receiver in the region coming back.

First place he recruits players will be the hallways, and baseball and basketball teams. By summer, some kids will have to decide whether to go to Summertown to play or not...that's how it begins, and if he is the coach there in 5 or 6 years they'll (in my opinion) be established as one of the programs to beat. Coaching ability helps, but cred with the kids will add talent in a hurry.
