Is the transfer portal hurting high school recruits?

Transfer portal is 100% hurting high school athletes. Let's say a 4 star player out of high school goes to a power 5 school and doesn't get to play for 2 years, he transfers to a top 25 team who has a sophomore 3 star. That 3 star transfers to a top FCS school who has a sophomore 2 star who then transfers to a lower level FCS school and takes the spot historically filled by a good high school senior. Western Kentucky only took two high school players last recruiting class and Central Arkansas took none. Lots of good high school athletes will now be really good intramural athletes in college.

It’s definitely hurting high school recruits. Simply cause college coaches can eliminate the time in having to refigure a kid who hasn’t experienced that level yet

I know a couple of athletes that normally would have found a home a this time that have not been picked up yet.  I figure it is because they are seeing who is on the market from other schools.

Yes, it is hurting high school recruits. Move the scholarship limit to 100 and the yearly scholarship limit to 30. 25 spots for JUCOs and High School kids. 5 spots for portal transfers.

Problem solved!

I am good with the portal, I just feel they should have thought about some guidlines before implimenting the process.  For example, if an athlete plays a certain amount of minutes, this should disqualify them from the portal for the next season.

Nice proposal, and limit the number of times a student athlete can transfer.  I am good with only once.  Sometimes you just make the wrong decision and just do not fit.

Yes it’s hurting as I read earlier in the thread I also know some athletes still need ndigned because all the schools pretty much are on the portal seeing who’s out there to fill some hold within there teams with older athletes so there goes another scholarship now it becomes a money thing for a family that have to refinance their home to assist getting there child in school. Everybody wants to go D1 but there are other ways to go NAIA, DII ect.

No, it's not hurting.  Colleges are going to find talented players regardless if they're in High School or on the portal. Ty Simpson went to Alabama and Tevin Carter went to Memphis. They were some of the most talented Quarterbacks in our state. The reason why it's not hurting is due to colleges have to recruit high school players, still. If not, then obviously, college football will run out of players.

Is it more difficult? Yes. But it's extremely rare to see colleges play as true freshman. You just don't really see that anymore. But high school players should take advantage of their first season on campus as a "academic invested year" because the chances of them playing are slim. However, the high school players are getting pushed to the side due to college players having that extra year of eligibility due to Covid. You can't blame the college players using that year of eligibility to pursue their master's degree for free.

It's also an advantage for the high school player. They can go to a Group of 5 school and ball out, then transfer to a power 5 school and immediately play. Or, they could go to a Power 5 school and wait out an opportunity to play at that school, or transfer to a group of 5 school. Why? Because a CAMERA DOESN'T LIE!

It's not hurting the high school athlete. Not every school is going to recruit an athlete. They should know that. However, they should realized the opportunity they have and take an advantage.

It just keeps bumping kids out down the line. The Power 5 three star goes to group of 5; the group of 5 goes down to FCS; the FCS goes down to Div 2; Until the kids that would have got in that JUCO or NAIA school just doesn't play. It will make college more competitive for sure but it does eventually hurt high school players.

Bottom line is money ruins everything eventually. When commercialization and opportunity dictate where kids choose to play instead of trust in the coaches and pride in the school, the appeal of "amateur" sports is gone.

I totally agree that there has been a need to "pay" players...they invest countless hours to the team that could be spent studying or working, but to open the door for kids to profit to the tune of life altering money while having the opportunity to gain a degree for free (for playing a sport) isn't right either, the pendulum has swung too far in the other direction.

Including a stipend with the scholarship would have solved that problem.  But. NCAA blew it.
