I see Central taking a step back.  The talent being attracted to Central has been in a steady decline since Bryson left.  And in spite of what some will try go tell you they have relied on transfers and out of zone kids during the chamionship run they have had.

I also see Oak Ridge taking a step forward.  Scott is a much better coach than most give him credit for being and he has brought in some really good assistants.

So has every Knoxville area team in the last.. forever.

Agreed about Coach Cummings. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t super excited when he took the job, but I do think he’s a great fit for OR at the right time. I really like the strength & conditioning coach he brought in. From my understanding, he’s one of the best around. Speaking of Central, were a lot of those kids on those great Helton teams OOZ kids? I’ve always heard quite a bit of them were. Not trying to cause a ruckus, just curious.

Rusty Partin was a tremendous addition to Scott's staff, too.  He's got a lot of experience, including being the OC at Farragut when they won the state championship, and then at South Doyle as the OC for Clark Duncan, whom he played for at Powell.

OK, I loved Coach Helton.  Great man, and one heck of a football coach.  One of the highlights of my broadcasting career was being able to record a 3 hour interview with him just a few months before he died that I ran on my Saturday show.  I still have the CD and pull it out and listen to it every now and then.  And he found a legal way to get transfers in to Central using a class that nobody else in the county offered and that was reason enough to get a transfer.  He was a bright guy and used that to his advantage, as some schools over the last decade or so have used their magnet status and other loopholes.

And I can tell that back in 2003ish/2004ish time period that 7 starting position players at Central were zoned Powell.

I'll leave it at that, but I am sure the resident Bobcat will deny it.  But it's true.  Most of them were in my son's classes at Powell Middle.

I knew he would show up.  He just can't resist.

Almost sorry I have him on Ignore and can't see what he posted.

Almost, but not enough to want to read it.  I'm sure it is a manifesto.

Like I said, give it a rest. I’m even to the point where I’m done arguing with you. Every single post you make on here is driven by your Ego to be a “know it all” and when ANYONE(not just me) disagrees with you you jump down their throat. I have my own opinion and knowledge to situations but no opinion seems to matter except yours. So I’ll let you spew your garbage, I’m just waiting on the season to come Billy boy :thumb:

I am sure there were some clerical errors that helped those kids get eligible at Central just like the so called clerical errors Powell used to get some of their players.

The 1999 and 2000 Powell teams were largely gutted in the same way by Helton. I had multiple classmates that went to play for him in the late 90s, and that's exactly how he did it. He took full advantage of that loophole.

Powell's offense shouldn't miss a beat. There is one big question mark on defense though. Walter Nolen masked a huge hole on their defense last year. A guy like him is irreplaceable, so I'm curious to see how they solve the middle of their defense in 2022. Their defense could revert back to 2020 if that's an issue.

I can't seem to find the ignore feature.  Where is it?

So getting back to 5A "2022", I'd have to give Powell and West the vote in the east, but don't be surprised with Oak Ridge showing up to cause problems. West is in Central's head for now. Hall's may be a bigger issue! And Rhea Co. could end up hurting some feelings!

    • Yea I agree I will say tho I was a big “ v “ fan if an  opening ever did happen I think it would’ve been good to see him have a shot coming from a power house like Oakland. I’m sure he’s learned a lot from Kevin.  I bet he would bring a really good offense scheme IMO But after all this I just dunno anymore.  Whatever happens with the rumors an such if it did come to and opening I think this messes it all up.  The board members dreams are slowly slipping away now. I haven’t lived there for awhile I just hear what I hear, but my question is would there be any good potential candidates?? That’s why I don’t understand why people want b s out so bad who else could do any better ?? IMO there’s nothing attractive about it? As I stated earlier I went to the last game last year and taking a leak in a porta Potty is pretty sad and still nothing being done they say ..
    • I have a sophomore that can do 177 (preferred) or 192. Sent you an email.
    • speaking of board members how can a man get arrested 12 days ago and still be head coaching a team in TC school system? looks like your right about the tc board members. I bet it would be different if they had a kid on the team
