#6 for Powell is an absolute beast...he's a great defender. Powell might actually have the best defense in the region...because nobody in the region is very good on defense, unfortunately. I hope OR gets better on defense between now and the playoffs

Wait, what?

Hard to keep up with you in this thread, CW.

Need to start calling you Sybil.

Pretty funny Sybil quote BUT I'll stand by what I said earlier. Powell is NOT good on defense but since our region is so weak this year, they seem to have the best defense in the region and #6 is the best defensive player that I've seen. OR is the only team, other than lowly Halls, that they held to less than three TDs.

The thing about football is that you don't have to be great at every phase to win. You just have to be good enough to score at least one more point than the team you are currently playing.

The main problem for OR is that the 1970’s are over.

I see what you’re saying, but we’ve had a lot of very good years since the 70s. The 80s and 90s, and even the first decade of the 2000s were filled with really good OR football teams. Just because we didn’t win any state championships during that time (barring 1991) doesn’t mean we didn’t have really good teams. In the late 80s and multiple times in the 90s the 2 Murfreesboro teams (Oakland & Riverdale) were just a tad bit better. @MidTennFootball can vouch for that. You say it as if we haven’t been relevant at all since the 70s, which just isn’t the case. I would compare those 80s and 90s teams to the past few Maryville teams. Very good teams, but Oakland just slightly better. That was the case between OR and Riverdale in those days. Heck, we were in the state title game just a few years ago in 5A. People can say whatever they want (and if I’m being completely honest I thought we were lucky as he$& to make it there), but we still made it.

A lot of teams would’ve loved to have had the success we’ve had since the 70s. Not everyone can be Maryville, Alcoa, and Oakland.

I can't believe Oak Ridge was in the championship game back in 2020. It seems like it was so much longer ago than that.

We have to much talent to ever be held to seven points  (I know it was technically 14...but it was really 7)

Have you seen our o-line?  Wow.  Now Cats you can call that an "excuse" if you want but I don't care how much "talent" you think we have because behind THAT line, good luck!  I know the boys that are left out there are trying hard, bless their hearts, but geez! Good luck getting anything going on offense.  shew wee

    • As I said somewhere earlier in the thread, the original plans had no outdoor athletic facilities being part of the campus.  The original plan was for HVA to use facilities at nearby schools.  Very late in the process they came up with a plan and found budget to have minimal facilities and crammed them in to space that never was intended for athletic facilities.
    • Agreed, the way the field is turned you get the evening sun blasting right into the press box making filming a nightmare there, plus its so low.  The field is land locked and parking is a nightmare too. Seems like Knox County could have done a lot better there with the design and the quality.
    • I think this upcoming team may be pretty good, they will definately be better up front and if they can replace Dozier, Heyward and Rembert, they can be real good. They have the same strange schedule, but this time with 5 straight home games. The road games at Jeff County, Powell will be tough to open up with and the back side at Bearden is the tough game there.  One question I had if anyone knows: There has been some talk of an indoor practice facility in the past, with the new track area now more of a track area, that kind of leaves a need for a football practice area. Just sayin....
    • I find it hard to believe that 70% of a schools enrollment is zoned for another school district
    • I was told that the indoor facility is happening regardless of the vote on the taxes but it would be a much bigger project with more funds if they vote goes through
