General, years ago I was watching a youth football game down in Columbia. I saw a coach put a kid in that had no idea how to even line down/get in a stance (D lineman). In between series, a parent explained/showed the kid how to line down. The problem was the kid lined up offsides; twice in a row. The coach pulled the kid and was ranting and raving and yelling the kids name on the sideline.

The problem I had was the coach or coaches had not shown the kid the proper way to line up/down. Second, it’s a wonder the coach didn’t get jacked on the sideline.

ive seen that. at every level. coaches humiliating kids for one mistake. its evil

ON THE VIDEO THAT STARTED THE THREAD:

- The coach lumps in any/every complaint in the same bucket- cursing a ref or coach is completely different than yelling, cheering, even criticizing.

- His part about don't criticize the coach is stupid. Accountability is for everyone. Especially coaches and refs. But the conversations should be civil. To this coach, any challenge is bad. That's a really stupid take.

- Sometimes refs do care who wins. Maybe they have a friendship with a parent or fam on one of the teams. Maybe they ARE being paid off. A few times with Forrest, the mistakes seemed too egregious or incompetent to be accidental.

- Daddy ball is a real thing. Good kids get passed over for the coach's kids. Or the coach's friend's kids. Then when they lose, those same coaches  blame, coincidentally, the refs. Refs are a scapegoat for everyone. Certain positions that kids play, even in high school, seem to be "Well that's what they played since pre-k". There should be literal tryouts for every spot.

- I don't care what refs make. Do the job right or don't do it. All of Forrest's refs seem to be 70 years old.  They can barely bend down to pick up a ball, can't throw or catch, and can only jog. No wonder parents get mad when they blow calls cos they can't see or are 30 yards from the play.

- When there is a 10 minute discussion, the refs either don't know the rule, or they didn't see the play and they are trying to figure out how to bluff their way thru things.

Again, cursing, threatening- physically or verbally, is ridiculous. ANY yelling is always heard by the kids. Things that are yelled should be largely positive.

Agree with everything, especially the "do the job right or don't do it" part. I never say a word if I disagree with a call, but not sure if the ref could see it...however, if I see him see it, and he doesn't make the correct call, I assume he has an agenda or is ignorant of the rule.

We've had two games this season with horrible officiating...neither affected the outcome at all. One we won big, the other we lost big. The white hat to our coach after a kid punched our player three times while on the ground after a tackle, plain as day, in the helmet, right in front of him..."I can't throw him out for that". At that point, you just shut up and accept it. I didn't mention either because I'm not "that guy" who uses any/every variable to explain away a loss, but sometimes it's hard to be quiet when you see in the kid's faces that they have a hard time accepting unfair treatment.

There is a bad problem in Johnson city right now, specifically science Hill.  I've seen things get out of hand before but 2 weeks ago took the cake.  During a 7 and 8 year old game,  the refs had to eject the coach and the science hill parents started brawling with each other. Of course the refs had to call the game in the 3rd quarter

What I have seen is that a lot of these youth coaches have never even played the game. They have no idea what it is like to even strap on a helmet and play a legit game. Everything they know is what they have seen on TV, and they never actually lived it.

“Inner Cities” why not just say the Blacks, because no little kid from ur neighborhood would be disrespectful towards refs teachers or cops. Anytime ive heard cussing or yelling at refs or actually fighting a ref on the sideline i was in a “good neighborhood” but hey the inner city is the worst.

I'm as white as a person can be and I can tell you with a straight face and total honesty that the worse behaved parents and players I have seen are those at private schools.  Now, pointing that out will not endear me to anyone, I know.  However, it is the honest truth.  Two years ago I attended the JCS at USJ game.  The USJ crowd got out of control because their kids, out on the field, began hitting late and other similar things cause they were losing and the refs were not going to be intimidated and kept throwing that yellow flag each time they did.  The dang refs had to be escorted off the field and all the way to their automobiles by law enforcement.  I have been to a lot of "inner city" games.  I have never seen that happen anywhere else.  A few years ago I attended a JCS vs TCA basketball game and I've never seen so many insane parents in one room in my life.  I'll leave it like this:  there were no Christians in that room that night, not on either side of the court.

OR, they played a tiny role in high school and think they are Nick Saban. There's rarely an in-between.

There you go again talking like your screen name. Some of the worst things I've heard have come from the mouths of public school parents/boosters saying things to private school athletes. Ive got such a long list of public school parents/fans getting obnoxiously rowdy that I would resemble War and Peace Volume 2. However, that is for  another thread altogether. Lord knows I'm not saying all private school parents are perfect because they are not. They are however no better or no worse than the public school parents.

I use to call our area school’s game on the local radio.  Our team was flagged for pass interference  and I said on the air, “that ball was uncatchable, that couldn’t be interference. One of my friends, who was an official, heard the comment.  He brought me a rule book and told me to “brush up on the rules.” He was right and I was wrong in my statement. Unfortunately, I think so many fans don’t know the rules and mix the rules from High School, college and pros up to the point that they have convinced themselves that they are an expert

BIG difference from Friday and College ball on Saturday
