My thought is I can't stand the few 4 team regions there are now. 5 teams is no better. To me 6 and 7 team regions are ideal. However, travel should be a consideration as well. What ever plan is adopted, there are always going to be a few schools who just have to bit the bullet on travel. You will never get them all evenly balanced with short travel. It's an impossible task

I completely agree. Region 4A almost became a disaster as Gordonsville was very close to moving up (and could in the next classification if everything keeps growing in that part of Smith County). That would have left Clay County, Jo Byrns, and RBS as the only three teams in the region. The next closest teams to add would be Harriman from the East, Whitwell/Sale Creek/South Pitt from South, or possibly a team like Moore County/Cornersville, which would move another team out a region with more natural opponents. The other option would have been to absolve Jo Byrns into a region further west, Clay County/RBS into existing Region 2 or Region 3, and then split another region somewhere into two separate ones. This situation is a good argument for five classes, as Jackson County, Gordonsville, and Trousdale County would all safely be 1A and then you could have a legitimate 6-7 team region.

For what I’m being told the MC/Fayetteville game will continue

Sweet! That is great to hear! I hope that game continues along with Cascade and Chapel Hill. If they could pick up just one opponent with close proximity, it would balance out those long region journeys.

Put them in with region 4 and 5, then split those. Can't be any more travel then South Fulton to Houston Co., or McEwen. McEwen, Houston Co , and McEwen are all kind of in no man's land. There is no great place for them. You are not going to satisfy everyone no matter what you do.

Houston Co, Perry Co, McEwen, Wayne Co & Collinwood could all be 1 Region

When it comes to the TSSAA and regions who knows but this is my stab at it! I could totally be wrong and it's hard to decipher what TSSAA will do when splitting up the state.

East to West or North to South?

There is a lot of travel in some of these regions but how the state and 2A teams are spread out in some areas it is what it is.

East 26 Schools

Region 1: Hampton, Happy Valley, South Greene, West Greene, Eagleton, Cumberland Gap, Oneida, and Wartburg

*Region 1 has a lot of travel and is the biggest region with 8 teams.

Region 2: Jackson County, Smith County, Monterey, York, Trousdale, Westmoreland, and East Robertson

Region 3: Tellico Plains, Polk, Bledsoe, Marion, and Fayetteville

*Region 3 is the trickiest region to predict because of the distance between the schools and lack of 2A schools close to each other. Also, the smallest region in the state with only 5 teams so someone from another region could potentially move here.

Region 4: Cascade, Forrest, Harpeth, East Hickman, Cannon, and Hickman County

West 25 Schools

Region 5: Summertown, Loretto, Lewis, Riverside, Adamsville, and Mt. Pleasant

Region 6: Camden, Huntingdon, JCM, Milan, Gipson, Waverly, and Peabody

*Hands down the toughest region in the state and the West representative will come from this region most if not all years.

Region 7 and 8: Memphis Schools

I can't see Fayetteville in region 3.  If the TSSAA draws it up like this, then I'd expect Fayetteville to petition out and it would be granted.

Sometimes a region may only have 4 teams.  It happens.

I’d move Cannon to 3 and FC to 4 from his list

Regular Season doesnt matter on the whole, its the playoffs that ultimately Matter

Milan's experiences in 4A and 3A will help them and help 2A as well (And I still maintain Milan was robbed of a 3A Gold Ball in their final year in 3A before moving to 4A)

Yeah its by no means a guarantee Milan makes it that far in 2A, but of the 2A Teams, Milan would be at the top of the list as well as the favorites and Frontrunners to win 2A, even above Westview

Look at Westview they dropped to 2A and they killed it in the 2A Playoffs

But yeah Milan would be the top team in 2A

Curious how they got robbed of a gold ball? They lost 35-0.

As for instant front runners, there is likely to be 2 teams in their region that they’re 3-7 against each over the past 10 years. Automatically put Trenton over them, and Huntingdon has had their number as well.

Southtowner,

Have you made a projection about all of the classes?  You’re usually very knowledgeable and I remember last class cycle we chatted with one another when this happened.  I’d love to see your thoughts on 1A through 6A.

I haven't made one on the regions at all but I appreciate the nod.  I leave those geographical breakdowns to folks that have more knowledge.  Like yourself, and that Indian feller.

I would like to see what you have projected.

And yes, I remember our chat from the last classification breakdown.
