Congratulations to this year's Andrew Johnson Ladies Classic champs, Alcoa H.S., who beat Knoxville Catholic H.S. 58 to 47 in the final game.

On the previous night, Alcoa beat Upperman in a defensive "slugfest" 42-41. In that game, starting post for Alcoa, Amelia Pfeiffer, left the game about two minutes into the second quarter, due to concussion protocol. Thanks to Mak Bremer, who totaled 26 points, Alcoa was able to make a 4th quarter comeback to win in the semi-finals. Bremer rejoined her team this season after suffering a knee injury last season. This was one of the hardest played games I have seen this year.

In the championship game, with Pfeiffer returning to the lineup, Alcoa had more of an inside game than on the previous night. Catholic's star guard, Sydney Mains, was unable to shift momentum to her team's favor, as she usually does with three- point shots, although she had three for the game. She was "held" to 19 points. Karli Haworth scored 25 points with five threes for Alcoa.

Two individual tournament records were broken this year. Karli Hayworth broke the single game record with 9 threes and Sydney Mains broke the tournament record with 23 threes.

Overall, this year's tournament was a great one!

Alcoa seems to be really good. Definitely going to be a tough out. One of our parents knows someone from Alcoa that predicted their being good about 1 1/2 ago.

Alcoa returned all of their starters from last year plus Mak Bremer. Bremer is a smart player, who put herself in position to make high percentage shots during the Upperman game. There is not a weak spot in their lineup.

Westview beat Alcoa in last year's tournament, but Bremer's return makes this team better.

Alcoa travels to Gatlinburg-Pittman January 6. I'm hoping to make this game and, if I do, I will give a report here on Coach T.

In last year's tournament, Alcoa lost a close game at G-P, that resulted in them having to play on the road at McMinn Central for a trip to Murfreesboro. Alcoa won that game. They are a fun team to watch.

BTW, point guard, Karli Haworth will play college ball for Carson-Newman, but I'm getting ahead of myself. :)

I heard GP had a transfer come in that got hurt but still have a bunch from last year. East is super stout this year and is most every year. East will go through what we do. Only two of GP, Alcoa, McMinn Central, Meigs and South Green. We have only two of Gibson County, Westview, Huntingdon, Summertown and Loretto.

That's too bad about Gatlinburg's transfer. South Greene has the injury bug also. It hurts to see a kid, no matter the team, hit the floor and not get right back up.

G-P has a post, Maddie Newman, who is smooth in the paint. I'm looking forward to seeing her this week.

Yeah we played them and her year before last at MTSU. She is a beast. Somebody will have to go to Central again in substate and that is never easy.

I've heard that McMinn Central is a tough place for visitors. There's a nickname for their gym, but I can't recall what it is.

Haworth is definitely fun to watch…. Unless you’re the opposing coach. She put on a show last year at Catholic. C-N is getting a good one!

Right on, Coach. Mains is fun (incredible) to watch also. Haworth and Mains are great for basketball in East Tennessee. Good luck the rest of this season.

    • Unfortunately the Sweetwater thing spooked some principals and ADs looking for head coaches in this cycle, even though Caleb wasn't at fault in any way. He had multiple OC opportunities. Personally, I'm glad he chose Karns, given that my oldest grandson plays in their middle school program.  Caleb is a good coach and a class act. It's a win for Karns to get him.
    • I was asked about this untrue speculation last night at our banquet(and several times over the last few weeks) which has been circulating on this website and through word of mouth. I am not taking the Rockvale job, nor have I even interviewed for that job or ANY other job since coming to Tullahoma. I have no desire to leave Tullahoma, my family and I love it here. We are committed to building our Lady Cats basketball program. I wanted to make sure our players, parents and stakeholders didn't get mixed messages from what I have continued  to communicate from day one and the untrue speculations of me leaving.  Coach Hibdon As stated above and I will add for clarification. This includes Blackman, we have no desire to leave Tullahoma, go back to Rutherford Co (even Blackman) or ANYWHERE else. There has been speculation from day 1 that I may be leaving for another job particularly RuCo and I have had to address the speculations many times. So I felt it necessary to make a statement for the basketball community and mostly our Ttown community to hear my commitment again amongst these constant rumors. We love this community, love living by the lake and no desire to move our 3rd grader and 6th grader from this school system. I wanted to make these statements for all those who are invested and interested in Lady Cats Basketball that my family and I are committed to being a part of Tullahoma High and the Tullahoma community for many years.
    • Well well well,  It was just a matter of time before the wheels fell plumb off the dragon wagon, and that pos  is sittin' over on highway 61 #### up in the ditch.   I called it 2 years ago everybody thought it was so cute with the church van and the K-town basement boys.   And here we are.  This is about to get fugly.  It's a mess and it's about to go public.   Investigators are just now scratching the surface.  Stay tuned.  Watch the news in the next few nights. Just when you thought you had seen it all, here we go......................
    • I am betting on that one too. They will rock 4A. Many don't see it coming.
