Round 3 - Dyersburg visits Covington

Just watched a replay of the regular season game between these two. Here are some things that happened in that game that I suspect will not happen in the rematch:

  • Dyersburg fumbles the kickoff back to the Chargers after the Chargers’ opening TD drive.
  • Dyersburg has a punt blocked for a TD
  • Covington passes the ball 14 times
  • Dyersburg is held to 18 yards rushing, zero yards passing, and no first downs.

I thought that the Trojan defense played better as that game went on. Holding Covington to two field goals in scoring situations was one facet of their defense.

I’m anticipating a real battle tomorrow night. This is Win or Go Home time.

I would have to agree with you. I think Dyersburg will play a much better game. I still don’t think it will be enough to win.

Go Chargers!

I agree with both of you. Dyersburg is healthier this time around and will want to prove they can play better against Covington the second time around. The regular season game may have been the worse game in Dyersburg history. To not get atleast one first down is unheard of. Covington is better than Dyersburg, but come on, not 1 first down. I expect Dyersburg to play much better this time, but it still won't be enough.

Much better game this time around for my TrojansThe boys fought hard until the end. We were playing on the house's money at the end for sure. The DHS coaching staff did good not allowing a complete collapse after the first game in Covington. Definitely was looking like it was becoming " it is what it is" type scenario with everyone looking to next year. Reminder-we lost one all-state defensive end and three all region players before the season started. No excuses, but it didn't put us in the greatest of situations.  Team got refocused and played as well as possible closing out the last 6 games. Congratulations to Coach Kirby and the team for a winning the region and ultimately the West Tennessee quarterfinal. I am glad East Nasty comes to West Tennessee this year, so Covington doesn't have to play in that sand trap of a field. Go Chargers! Give'em heck next week.

    • Well, your Big Western Hunt better turn up some Zebras to come graze on the Stones to make the jungle gametime ready again and make sure the plumber bros. still will come service the facilities at the Mecca. I hope your weekend is Fowl. Tell Rip hello from the Five Oh. Maybe the Gravedigger will catch a ride with Alphaniner on a flyover soon to BNA.
    • It’s not hearsay, just patently false. As one of those young coaches he apparently “ran off”, coach never once ridiculed or degraded anyone. Sure he challenged kids and coached them very hard,  but we have different definitions of you call that degrading. Coach Hammontree changed my life when he gave me the chance to work for him. I learned more about being a man and caring for the people around me in 4 years working for him than I did in 20 years of my life. No one sacrificed more than he did. I left Heritage because I felt there would never be the support necessary to help the program succeed. I’m tired of hearing people drag others down especially those they truly don’t know. Coach has moved on and a new coach is there. Just let the man live and root for the team.
    • Waiting on the Great One.   White Horse and Rip have a big weekend in the woods, and the Sheriff is working the overtime here.      Turkey season awaits…..Big Gobblers everywhere.
