Hate to see any kid end his career on a play like that! I agree. He will remember that play forever. I hope he uses it to motivate him and makes himself better for it. The end zone's has been that way since lord knows when. But the TSSAA is more concerned with a player's knee pad showing rather than someone potentially tearing an ACL or breaking their leg because the took an awkward step on that end zone. TSSAA should have the authority to deemed that feel not safe to play. Which to me, it is not safe. You drive about 15-20 minutes north to Ripley, and part of their "end zone" is on their track. That part of their end zone is covered by some turf. However, if a player catches a pass and has a hard time stopping through the track, he could potentially end in a ditch that's about 3-5 feet deep. Regardless, what a football game!

stacmot
Haywood seniors, you have a lot to be proud of. Over the past 4 years you have been an integral part of Tomcat teams who have: -won 48 games and lost 8 (winning 10 or more games each season) -won four Region 7-4A championships while going undefeated in region play -made four state semifinal appearances and one final appearance -set a season-record scoring average of 49.6 points per game (2022 season) I would like to thank you for your contribution to the annals of Haywood High football. Your talent, athleticism, and accomplishments have made it a pleasure to watch you play, and I’d like to wish you the best in your future endeavors. Haywood underclassmen, you also have a lot of talent and athleticism, and I’d like to thank you for your contribution to Haywood’s success. Continue to work hard in the off season, and I look forward to another exciting and successful season in 2023. I’d also like to thank Coach Smith and staff for your time and hard work. I know this will fall on deaf ears, but I would like to make a plea to the Haywood County School Board and County Commission. I am a strong believer in academics, but athletics also plays a huge part in the success of our students and our school. Athletics brings our community together. I know there is a lot of money to be spent on infrastructure with the arrival of Blue Oval City, and I know improvements need to be made to our school facilities. Please find a way to use some of that money to make improvements to our fieldhouse and athletic facilities (stadium). You won’t regret it.
