For a high school team to have consistent success throwing the football they must have a coach that is able to teach the finer points of a passing offense.  It truly takes time to develop quarterbacks and receivers and if someone on the coaching staff did not play QB at the collegiate level or higher it’s almost impossible to become a great pass first and run second team.  However, a high school team that has a QB that can read defenses and throw to receivers that run good routes will be able to pick most high school defenses apart.

False, West High Rebs 15-0, 5A champs.  Heavy on the run game, all year long.   Threw the ball when necessary or when the opportunity presented itself, they took advantage.  But heavy heavy run oriented offense.  Helps to have a Mr. Football finalist, Brayden Latham, toting the pig skin.

My opinion is that the vast majority of HS teams do not have the skill sets nor the time to try and develop complicated NFL offensive schemes.     Sure, college and NFL guys have all day to practice, watch game film, get developed, etc.     HS guys are practicing after school for a couple of hours and then have to go home and do homework and so forth.        It seems most HS teams would be way better off learning a very few fundamental non complicated plays and being able to run them in their sleep.    I'm not saying never toss the ball but looking at the title games.....   most of them are run first and pass when needed.     Too many helicopter parents think little Johnny is the next Tom Brady and he's not.    The most successful teams seem to keep it way simpler.... but the downside of that is that it can be boring.     Fans expect 40 yard passes all the time now because college and the NFL are the new benchmark for HS I guess.     Personally I would rather see 4 yards and a cloud of dust and win 10 games a year than get all fancy-smancy and get an early playoff exit year after year.     Just my opinion, that and $5 will get you something @ $tarbuck$.
