Just to verify…I was in no way saying Westview threw the game. Gibson Co played better Saturday night than Westview and won the game! Westview’s shooters had an off night both handling the ball and shooting. Hopefully this win will just spark a fire under their tail like I think it will and motivate them from here on out to make sure they show up and take care of business every night! It’s a new season now and do or die from here on out (minus a regional championship game)!!

What a great game to watch and a fun atmosphere. I almost didn't go but am so glad I did. I thought GC exposed some weaknesses of west view.it will be interesting to See if others take the same game plan/approach. They fried to limit Jada's touches and force other's to handle the ball which led to a lot of turnovers that Jada usually hides because she is so good they usually don't have to handle it except in very small spurts. in the half court it appeared that they weren't helping off the 2 best shouters and eliminating a lot of Jada's opportunities to drive and kick out. I would be curious to see final stats because live it seemed like OC won the rebounding and turnover battles as well. Wilkins always has a good-game plan and they always Are scare because you know his teams will play hard and be extremely well prepared. I love watching his teams play. There's a reason he is considered one of the best. And wow!!! Micah hart was an animal last night. Last night, she was the best player in the gym and you could full she was determined to not let her team lose. Should be a fur region championship too. '

GC just beat WV & anyone who was there, witnessed it. Great game plan by Wilkins and their stud could not miss. If GC plays that way from here on in, WV will have trouble with them again if they meet up. GC is a lot better than they were 2 months ago. Bring on the regional tourney....it's now getting real.

A coach told me that the only thing WV beat GC in was blocks and 3 pt %. But they didn't shoot as many 3s because like you said...Jada was limited on kicking it out.  There were points in the broadcast you could see Jada getting frustrated because she was covered up. I was also told they limited her to 19 points total, mostly in 2nd half. I was shocked hardly no fouls called on her and the GC player guarding her. (#30 i think majority of game.) They were really tangled up and playing tough! I'm not familiar with all the teams in the region but I hope to see these two teams battle it out again.

What I took from the game is that GC figured out WV in that game and forced them to play GC's game, where WV typically forces the opponent to play WV's game. If both make it to the Region finals, it will be a battle. GC has Huntingdon figured out and WV struggled with Huntingdon. GC may be the power player coming from the North-West......going to be interesting.

GC and Huntingdon have been battles all year. 4, 8 and 8 and when they are that close anything can happen. You seen what GC did at Westview Sat. Night. Y’all miss a few we hit a few and end result we get a big win. Huntingdon is well coached and a great team. All three teams can win it all, IMO. You know how it is. Got to get through the battles and hold your composure and deal with adversity.

“They limited her to 19 points total”…she is only averaging 16 ppg this season. The main thing was limiting the kick outs and the aggressive physical play. Westview has to limit their turnovers as well. They will come back strong

Hart only had 18 ppg in the season but scored 24 this game. My point being that players to that caliber turn it up even more in the post season, especially in such a close game. If she hadn't have been limited as well as she was, that 19 could have very well been closer to 30...would've made a huge difference.

Of course they will come back strong. No one expects less of such a great team.

When I heard the scoring in the post-game the thing that struck me most was Kylie Alexander was scoreless and Jillian Brigance had only 3. Championship teams are built on a "tripod." Take out one leg and things get shaky.

    • Personally I was pulling for Lee Hammonds to get another shot. He’s earned it!
    • Tyler Williams was the logical choice to be named head football. He served as the Highlanders’ strength coach and offensive coordinator.
    • I went to practice yesterday and liked what I saw for the most part. Derek and crew have done a good job during the off-season. I was very impressed with the size of some of those boys on the offensive line. My only regret was one of the boys I was really pulling for to have a good year was dismissed from the team. I have to applaud the coaches for setting examples for the others, no one is bigger than the team. One other thing, I was hoping with that big rain we got this week some of that  yellow paint would dissolve but it didn't.
    • Couple of thoughts: 1.  I just don't understand all the intricacies in TSSAA transfer rules anymore.    William Blount had a kid that played the final part of the basketball season with them this year,  that played at Hardin Valley last year, and played football for Bearden this year.  I say that to say, I know the coaches and the AD and the Principal at WB and I will never believe they would do something they knew was wrong.  They are men of character.  I BELIEVE the same thing about the coaches and administration at Maryville.  Call me gullible, but these are men and women of integrity in my experiences with them. 2.  Much like the transfer of the Clemmer kid a couple of years ago, with Smith, the football team is getting a huge boost, but the impact on the basketball team will be just as great or maybe even greater.  With Smith playing post, it frees the Sigmund kid who will be coming back from injury, to play more with his face to the basket.  The Rebels basketball squad in my mind, will be "the program" in East Tennessee next year.
    • Could not agree more. After this year, McKenzie's new coach will have their work cut out for them. Staying in 1A would definitely be a huge plus. Most years there is not much difference in the top 5- 1A and 2A teams across the state, but after the top 5 or so there is normally a huge drop off for 1A. Regular season region play is a lot easier for 1A in West TN  right now.
