West Tennessee Sports is reporting that Blake Butler has resigned as head football coach at Trinity Christian Academy.  He has accepted the same position at Evangelical Christian School. He informed his team in a meeting at 9:30am this morning. Butler, who started his coaching career at ECS, became the HC at TCA in 2011. During his time at TCA, Butlers teams reached the TSSAA state semifinals twice (2013 & 2015). While at TCA, 2 of his players won the TSSAA Mr. Football award (Kyle Akin and Andrew Goldsmith). Combined, they both hold many state records. Butler was also the assistant track coach at TCA when Kevin "Flash" Davis won the state title twice in the 100m dash and once in the 200m dash.

Blake Butler is married to Allison Butler, and he has 3 children (Kade, Drake, and Hudson).

“This is one of the hardest decisions I have ever had to make. After 12 years of being your head football coach, Allison, our boys, and I feel that the Lord is leading us to return to Memphis. I will be accepting the position as the next Head Coach at ECS. I will always be a supporter of TCA and cheer the Lions on from a distance now. Thank you for the last 12 years and the lifetime relationships we have formed while here in Jackson.”

One a personal note, I'd like to wish Blake, and his family, the very best of luck in their new adventure. Blake has been a blessing to me personally, and I am proud to call him my friend.

Hate to hear that for the TCA faithful Reitz. Coach Butler got as much from what he had as anyone could expect and then some. The demeanor and actions of the team between whistles says a lot for the man as well...they say that teams take the personality of the coach, and TCA should be as proud of the kids' conduct as they have of their performance. I hope that Coach Butler and TCA both succeed going forward, it's much deserved.

What was his won/loss record at TCA?

Over the past 11 years, how many times was the mercy rule applied with TCA on the losing side?

Just keeping real here.  Don't react to reasonable questions with hate.

During Butler's tenure, he mercy ruled more teams than he was mercy ruled.  Just keeping it real, and truthful.

    • He may have possibly said that to get the best out of him. Back when I was in school word got out I was going to transfer and Coach Story popped off and ask Coach Wilson in front of the team if Maryville was going to get a jock strap in return on this trade. That got back to me and I got fired up and stayed just to show them up. Now today Coach Story is one of my best friends.
    • Dylan's Dad, I'm glad you replied. I wanted to reply but wasnt willing to take the bait. There were 20 wrestlers on the team. I may be mistaken and correct me if I'm wrong but I believe 5 of the 20 attend McCallie right now and one will next year. At most, there are/were 6 kids on that team who attend McC. That leaves 14 other team members who have ZERO affiliation with McC (outside of maybe some friends) who represented our state to the best of their ability and wrestled their butts off that weekend. That weekend was a first for Tennessee and obviously a small step in the right direction for us as a state. Congratulations TEAM TN BLACK!
