McNairy Central defeated Lexington to win the school's first-ever state championship. They won a low hurdles state title in 1987 with Fred Wyke.

The school had finished state runner-up in the 2017 softball tournament when they had the lead on CAK going into the seventh inning. The basketball girls team finished second in the 1974 state basketball tournament.

McNairy defeated Lexington in five of eight games this season. It was the most ever wins in one season against Lexington.

Coach Mellanie Surratt was the coach of the Lady Bobcats.

My guy Jay going to find a way to bring Summertown in the conversation lol

Hawk Summertown winning Gold’s left and right in volleyball, tennis, golf, softball….For the record we played the girl from South Gibson that is supposed to go to South Side’s AAU Team a couple of weeks ago. She is the real deal. We lean right to stop her right and she goes left and finishes very good. Can’t believe South Gibson let her get out of there.

No media coverage for this area. Jackson Sun no longer has a sports reporter. Articles written from long distance. McNairy was under the radar. Played in three tournaments in Alabama. Seven senior starters will be missed. Freshman pitcher and freshman outfielder will be the old hands. Several good eighth graders moving up to join them along with a few other returning freshmen. Future looks bright.

Good to see Lexington's slugger move on to Austin Peay. Think that she had about 25 home runs last season and maybe 26 this season. Probably top 15 nationally.

Amen to that! Everyone blames the internet for the downfall of "local" newspapers, but the Sun has gradually abandoned any and all coverage of high school athletics, which has greatly impacted their lack of subscribers. Used to have a special section during football season, even began weeks before week 1 with highlights of almost every team in their sales area...fast forward to now, and you can't find even the scores on Saturday's edition. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Oh I know their history is there! I just like to mess with him when they don’t win, he ties them to the winning team lol.

Yea I am glad she is with us! I talked to her a few weeks ago at practice, I hope she can make a name for herself

    • Well well well,  It was just a matter of time before the wheels fell plumb off the dragon wagon, and that pos  is sittin' over on highway 61 #### up in the ditch.   I called it 2 years ago everybody thought it was so cute with the church van and the K-town basement boys.   And here we are.  This is about to get fugly.  It's a mess and it's about to go public.   Investigators are just now scratching the surface.  Stay tuned.  Watch the news in the next few nights. Just when you thought you had seen it all, here we go......................
    • I am betting on that one too. They will rock 4A. Many don't see it coming.
    • So Reado left because Smith left? That seems like Smith just pulled the rug out from under him and left Reado hanging. Why didn't Reado just stay on and coach O-Line. I am sure he could have done a great job. He has been successful before at CAK and Grace Christian of Knoxville. Is private Christian School coaching that much different than coaching public school, and it also being BHS at that?
    • What do you mean they’re exaggerated? In the time he’s been there he has officially hired 10 coaches who are no longer a part of the program. That is a fact. If anything I’m underreporting the number who have left. Only one left for a better job. Having that high of a turnover rate is a major red flag.
