Looks like the interest in DB football has fallen off the cliff. I wonder why? This thread was started in February and has gone to 10 pages. I remember when a DB thread would go to 10 pages in a week, and every week. Anybody want to talk about Basketball?

I'm not sure there's nearly as much passion about HS football as there used to be.    Even now when I go to Boone games it seems a lot of people are there just to socialize, a lot of them don't know the difference between a linebacker and a fair catch.         Maybe time to start a Farragut @ DB thread and see what happens.

May be a long year for the Indians,  2 starters out for the year before practice starts, another that wont be back until October, 3 lineman going both ways in 6A football? Powell scrimmage was not good, Knox Central was better, don't know about Botetourt.  Down numbers -- 3-4 years ago they had 115+ in 10-12 and only 90 jerseys, decline was seen in youth levels a few years before.  No boys and girls club anymore?  Lynn Garden barely had enough for 3 summer teams and now Fall is "travel" just like baseball and basketball.

I don't think any 5A or 6A school should have a lot of 2-way guys, but it happens more than we realize.      Either the players are not being developed or 80% of the kids are there just to fulfill a roster quota.     Well who knows, perhaps nepotism can play a role as well.    None of this is targeted at DB specifically by the way, just some observations on why schools with > 1500 kids can't field a team of 22.

100% Nepotism at DB. It started when Ted Wilson retired.

    • Most of what I was saying about gold ball or bust was just good ole teasing. I am surprised tho on how many folks are picking MC by 21+
    • Maybe their only chance to score an offensive touchdown this season honestly. Their schedule after that is tough
    • The last 3 games were by 7,3,&1 but the Turnover margin was Macon 7 and Upperman 1 in those 3 games. Even Friday night Macon had a chance to go up 24-14 at half instead they snapped over the QB head and lost 25 yards plus the insane going for it at the 20 yard line. These things don’t happen to work out every time. Macon could actually beat Upperman if they play  again but no one in Putnam co even acknowledges that as a possibility.
    • This is probably TC’s best chance to get in the win column this year
    • But Bogger... that SOS is pretty tough.  And this week they travel to Franklin to play 8 man football? that's got to be a mistake. Interesting tidbit this app on my phone told me: Gary Rankin, one of Tennessee's most successful high school football coaches, holds the state record for victories and state championships, with a career marked by dominance at both Riverdale and Alcoa High Schools. His record reflects only a few losses against coaches such as Ingle Martin. Ingle Martin, head coach at Christ Presbyterian Academy (CPA), has a notable career, including state championships and victories that contributed to Rankin’s relatively rare losses. Martin's CPA teams have defeated Rankin’s teams in playoff situations, establishing Martin as one of the few coaches to hold a winning record against Rankin  Despite Rankin’s legendary career, his rare defeats underscore the competitive nature of Tennessee high school football, especially against rising coaching talents like Martin.
