Until the upper East Tennessee 6A teams prove that they can consistently go deep in the playoffs they will never receive any respect.  They must learn to beat those strong teams out of Middle Tennessee and Memphis.

I wouldn't even push it that far (Mid TN & Memphis).    Since 2009 Maryville is 21-0 against Science Hill & Dobyns Bennett.      Eastern 6A still goes thru Maryville

Listening to coach Christian on the Sports Monster, said DB lost the defensive front 6 to graduation.      He said depth is razor-thin.       What?!?!??!       A school with 2,514 students has a bunch of guys playing both sides of the ball??       How common is this for large 6A schools, maybe it happens more than I would think.......

No possible way? I've seen better DB teams lose to worse teams than West Ridge. Don't make me list them.

Been a while and I just started catching up and seen these two quotes by you and for sure three or four games jump out , with the playoffs being  the hardest of them. For myself , that 2008 first round McMinn county game is unbelievable . I think number one ranked  DB beats them by five touchdowns in nine out of ten regular season games that year and even worse in the tenth game. Still stings but nothing is a given in sports and just because you are supposed to win , doesn’t mean the opponents will roll over .

Hayworth and Gaines

I don’t know the whole staff these days but was an early fan of coach Gaines from years ago and everyone knows I have the upmost respect for TY Hayworth and his whole family . Especially  when it comes to what he done in the weight room during his playing days at DB and WF.

Thin is an understatement for sure. The smallest roster I have ever seen for the Indians... in size and numbers.

Only 68 players on Varsity, fewest I have ever heard of. Plus, key stat here:

1 player is 300#. Only 18 others are listed at 200# or more. I would say "steam rolled" will be a phrase used in a number of games this year. 5 wins would be a miracle and the same for goes a Playoff spot.

Scrimmages? Not heard a word. May go see the scrimmage Friday at Emory & Henry.

I don't dispute your word, but do you think maybe Christian is sand-bagging a bit or is the above for real?

This is a direct result of the coaching staff having no interest whatsoever in the little leagues, middle schools, and community as a whole. There's a sense of arrogance that's been there since day one of that last head coach. It's just beneath them to go out in the community with any seriousness to get boys interested in playing football. Not all the coaches on the varsity staff are like this but it comes from the top. It also goes deeper than the head coach. The Athletic Director, Booster Club, and School Board are all to blame. And with that, it can't be fixed by anything but time. All these people will have to get old and retire and we can only hope more competent people can take their place. Thats 20 years out. So, get used to losing.

LOL!  He's not that cagey. My guess is Christian is starting the excuses before the season even kicks off.
