Well, its that time of year again.  I really enjoy the summer camps.  This year, we will be hosting a play date on the 4th which will include Hampton, Unaka, and johnson county.  I think hampton is hosting one on the 5th.  5 freshmen will join the lady landers this year.  We will have 2 seniors, 8 juniors, and 3 sophomores.  Gonna be a new look for us this year.  This group is pretty dang good.  Unaka will be the new favorite in R1a.  They got a really good transfer who has an NIL deal.  And NG has most of their starters back.

Lady landers 69 happy valley 17.  We play west ridge tomorrow at Hampton.  9 different girls scored and sophomore sensation makinna shell had 18.  Unaka is a different animal now that they have nil holder Michelle shields.  They're now a contender

King, Cloudland Hampton or Unaka isn’t very good. NG will win it again.

Can't go by summer ball.  Hampton looked bad last summer but wound up winning the district.  They will win that district again this year.  I think CD and SG lost quite a bit.

Got one more camp at tuscullum.  My analysis so far. NG is the front runner in R1. They looked pretty strong at their camp.  We were shorthanded no excuse.  We were without our 6 foot post and point guard but it was a good opportunity for the twins and yesterday they did a good job.  Unaka is going to be ok when they start gelling with the transfers.  I think it's going to be a tight district.  We'll have to get a lot tougher to compete with NG.  Their kids are tougher than ours right now.  We're going to be working hard to change that by 2025.  Spring ball shows what needs to be worked on.  Coach is not going soft on anyone and practices will be tougher than last year.

Got a major question you may or may not know the answer but why is the shields girl at unaka I thought she was a cyclone

She was a cyclone lol.  I've known about it since January.  I don't have a definitive answer why, only speculation.  She's a great player but it probably won't change things in our district.  The way coach Buchanan develops a team is gonna make it a tall order to knock them off.  His starting 5 is as experienced as they come and he has bodies now.  Lady Landers are having to grow up fast.  They don't have that McKinney, christman, Turbyfill security blanket anymore.  This has been a tough camp for us.  We were embarrassed by Greenville on Wednesday.  We played better yesterday.

This is Coach Dotson at Wise Central, we try to play NE Tennessee teams when we can, always enjoy the competition. I read this forum from time to time to during the season to read about teams that we are playing that season. I just realized I had an old subsription to this forum from about 10 years ago and it still works. KING, were you at Gate City the day we played Cloudland?  It was a close game throughout, and we had a little surge at the end to win by a few. Coach Birchfield has a quality program, much respect for what he does. I didn't have my senior all state PG that day, but my freshman PG had a big day scoring-wise for us.  I wish we were a little bit closer and could play Cloudland during the regular season.  We played Hampton the next day with all our kids (minus a couple recovering from ACL tears in the spring, one a potential starter or 6th man). I'm not sure if either Cloudland or Hampton were at full strength, but the game with Hampton wasn't as close as the Cloudland game.  Hampton has a lot of pieces though and will be a good team.

    • Yep! Now if both teams play at their best (including their supporting cast) then I really don’t know who wins. I might would lean Upperman then because I believe they tend to play better team defense, but since I’ve seen Greeneville play much closer to their best lately than I’ve seen Upperman (outside of Ty Cobb) that is why I believe Greeneville wins today. It will honestly come down to which team plays the best today IMO.
    • It will be interesting to see how Greeneville decides to play Cobb. My guess is they face guard try to keep the ball out of hands as much as possible, but that’s nothing new. It’s about time Upperman brings their A game to the dance otherwise it will be game over.
    • Couldn’t agree more with you! And most of Greenville’s main players (outside of Thompson) are also football players, from my understanding and from what’s been said throughout the season. I would say the same is true from Greenville’s perspective on Ty Cobb, can’t stop him and just try to slow him down.    That’s why I see it coming down to each teams supporting cast. And it really seems like that should benefit Greeneville with how many shooters and how consistent their shooting has been. I believe Uppermans best chance is to try and get early fouls on Thompson and put him in foul trouble.  now one thing I don’t think many people outside of Upperman fans realize is how good Chaffin is at taking charges. You wouldn’t think a 230 6’4” guy would necessarily be the best at it, but he is good at it. that could play huge in this game if he can get a couple on Thompson
    • Haywood is not in Fayette Ware's District or Region next season. They are in Region 7. Top Teams in that region will be Dyersburg, Dyer County, South Gibson, South Side, North Side, Haywood, and Lexington. Really tough Region. Haywood's new District is going to be legit too: Haywood, Obion, Dyersburg, Dyer County, Crockett County and South Gibson. Not a cake walk to the region tournament like they have been the last several years with 4 teams in their district.
    • I agree completely with this, and you are right on many counts. However, I deeply love and respect what Barry did! I hated to see him leave at first actually. My response to the coaching is more so how the teams were prepped for the state tournament from last year to this year. I found out that in the 10 days leading up to last years matchup the coach only had them practice….2 of these days…..that makes no sense. I’m not commenting on their coaching outside of that in this discussion as I feel the other areas aren’t as fact related and more potential bias could be brought in the other areas.
