Schools have until Friday, Oct 18 to notify the state office if they wish to play up in any classification.

After the deadline,  the BOC members will set the regions for the next 4 years.

Region release target date is Nov 8.

Do you know if schools are allowed to move up any number of classifications or just one? I've heard different things regarding this

You can move up in classification,  you just can't move down.  You are allowed to move up more than 1 class. You can move up in any or all sports.

Thank you for clarifying. It'll be interesting what some of the 2A schools will do

Looks like our 2A school will be playing up in 3A for the next 4 years since TSSAA clowned around with the numbers.  We had a huge senior class last year that was counted and an unusually small freshman class that wasn't. Using the normal method of counting students, we are in the 490's. Great to hear they are locking this in for 4 years.

Classification definitely came at a bad time for yall.

Something else to ponder:  By Innovation Academy coming onboard this classification it pushed a couple schools up.  Had they not come on board there would have been 299 schools split instead of 300.  When there's an odd number the smallest class gets the "extra" school.  Class 1A would have gotten 51 schools this classification because Houston Co and Mitchell both have the same enrollment at 354.  That would have place both in 1A.

2A would get the next 50.  From Gordonsville as the smallest to Community as the largest.

3A  next 50.  Meigs Co to Lakeland Prep.

4A next 50.  Jackson South Side to Glencliff and Clinton.

5A next 49.  Tullahoma to Whitehaven.

6A the largest 49.  Morristown-Hamblen to Collierville.

Wow. That doesn't make me feel any better.

Add in the two new metro 2A Nashville schools that dropped 20% from last classification and one can see how great a job TSSAA is doing.

I wished the membership would demand reclassification every 2 years.

I think it's better than looking at the 20% increase/decrease every 2 years.  That's a drastic change in such a short timeframe.

Every 2 years is better.  It  only affects the schools that "teeter" on the enrollment break numbers anyways. Instead of spending 4 years in a higher class it would be only 2 maybe.  Let another "teeter" take their turn.

You all definitely got the short end of the stick.

Would like to see them look at dividing at a specific number, maybe 450, 700, 1200, 1600 than having it necessarily equal. Too late now. Maybe in 28.

In a perfect world that would be great. In the world we live in there would be half the schools in every classification at 449,699,etc... Throwing out a hard and fast number would only serve to be used as a target.
