New classifications and alignments

Recommended Posts

I know I am jumping the gun a little bit here because the basketball season has not even occurred yet. But I am curious on the thoughts and opinions on the possible reclassifications and new districts that will occur at the end of this year.

Old Districts Realign?? I imagine that travel has been a burden for some teams. We have to travel over hour and half for a district game. I think this could be the allignment for AA local to us. Rumor is they will have district alignments done before the end of November? Id think coaches would like this better than having to wait all year.

District 5AA: I could see Oneida moving into our district. Their travel is absurd. Only downside would be different time zones. If I'm oneida, I want out of that district. Will they move back down to single A?

Oneida

York

Monterey

Jackson Co

District 6AA: Old district coming back together. Bad timing for cannon to come back into this district with all the talent coming up at Smith, WHS, and Westmoreland.

Cannon

Westmoreland

Watertown

Smith

Sometimes I get the sense that 4 classifications are to much for high school basketball. Seems like more and more districts are becoming watered down and also their is the enrollment issue that is happening for some schools across the state.

Would agree that four is too many.

They need to focus on prep/charter schools first. They should either be placed in the private class or bump them up in classifications

Need to do away with districts and just have regions.

Why? Charter schools are public schools. Same with Magnet Schools- this is public money.

Unlike zoned schools they have no zone and depending on how they are run they can't get transfers mid-year or it is difficult to get transfers at all.

Not all of these are run the same- so please don't lump them together. How many Prep/Charter or Magnet Schools are winning state titles?

I am afraid that we are heading in that direction. I have mixed feelings about it. I think there has actually been some discussion on the moving in that direction since there are some districts with only 4 teams and they all make region.

Just change the way and number of teams that go to the State Tournament.

Basketball should be the same as football. Take the top 2 from the district tournament (no matter how many are in the district), play a sub-region game (higher seeds host) and then take the 4 winners in a region (each region would have 4 districts in it since there are 16 districts across the state) to Region tournament. Winner of the region tournament advances to State. State would be the Final Four from 6 classes of schools.

The whole reason there are 4 classes is because for years you had schools in classifications playing people with 2xs the enrollment. They tried to fix it and it would have been fixed had they gone to 5 classes instead of mamby-pambying around and going to 4.

Alabama state tournament has the blueprint but T$$AA aint looking for the good of the kids- just their pocketbook.
