West at Powell

West wins 30-18.

Two big kick returns in the first half, and West's 3rd down passing in the second half were the differences in this one. Hopefully Wheeler is okay. Gonna be a tough playoff road for the Panthers without him.

Nice way to win the region for the Rebels.  That at least puts us back at 3300 with control for a few rounds.  Enjoy the night boys - the real season just started.

West’s return game has given Powell fits for years. Seems like they brought back a kickoff and an interception in the 2022 playoff game.

What happened to Wheeler? 5star didn't tweet any injuries?

Got tackled awkwardly in the second quarter, and never returned. Looked like a nasty ankle injury, but not sure of the severity.

This one is puzzling. Looks like tough scheduling paid off for the Rebels in this one. To go there and get a win against that defense is remarkable. My buddy from Powell told me to make no mistake about it, West may not be as good on either side of the ball as they have been for the last 2 years but their physicality is still there.

There are a good number of terrific coaching staffs in high school football in this area,  but it's  my opinion that none is better than the current staff at West.

The physicality is definitely there, and aside from a few penalties, they played a mistake-free football game. There were a number of low tackles on Rodgers, but I don't think any of them were "dirty". Honestly, that's how you get him on the ground.

I'd love to know what their third down conversion rate was in this one, because it was back-breaking; Powell had them in a number of difficult 3rd down situations, especially in the second half, and they converted most of them. West only punted once, which was on their first drive. It just felt like they controlled the game, for the most part, and Powell never really made them uncomfortable.

Hopefully Wheeler will be healthy enough to play in two weeks. Shouldn't need him in round 1, but they'll need him against Sevier County. In some ways, losing Wheeler in the secondary was a bigger blow in this game because he is one of their better cover guys with his speed.
