Great win for South Gibson over Westview

Gibson Co takes down undefeated Crockett Co in a close one

USJ beats Huntingdon 40-38 in a back and forth game

Good night of bball

South Gibson is real long and plays a stingy defense. Crockett County has a a good team. Their post sets the tone for them. Very hard to score on. Dyersburg is loaded beating a really good South Side team. I do think Dyersburg is firmly at the top in West TN. Then you have a group that are good teams and can beat anyone on a given day. I would say South Gibson, Gibson County, Westview, South Side, USJ, Union City, Huntingdon and Crockett County are all in that next group.

Crockett was a mirage. They entered today 80th out of 83 AAA teams in schedule strength.

Crockett County's post is a beast and will keep them in a lot of games. They have a PG as well and a shooter or two. Gibson County didn't shoot well especially at the FT line missing about 12 FT's but our defense and ball pressure was the difference late in the game. They were the only team to beat us last year and their post was a big reason why.

Embrey has done a fantastic job leading the program. I feel it’s a little early to get a good gauge on how the season is going to play out, but I would love to see South Gibson County/South Side in person.

Worst officiated game I’ve ever seen tonight at South Gibson! Those Jackson crew refs are something else. Two SG girls bulldoze a Westview girl and no call. Sims fouls out, 3-4 other starters with 4 fouls. It was absolutely ridiculous!!

That’s what your going to get at SG

18 fouls called on McNairy at JCS while only seven called against a very aggresvive and physical JCS. Somewhat similar experience at Crockett County.

Dyersburg lost the foul battle by nine or ten calls last night and still won by 20.

And speaking of McNairy, I am disappointed by the school’s official social media page for the high school and their comments about referees. A really bad look for a high school.

HS referees are what they are. These guys have full time jobs and referee on the side. There are some really good ones and some really bad ones, but they’re not intentionally favoring one side or the others. To say otherwise, and especially for a HS social media page to say otherwise, is ridiculous.

I watched the SG/Westview game online this morning.  Saw some questionable calls against both teams, but nothing that decided or changed the outcome. SG point guard sat the whole 2nd quarter with foul trouble but WV couldn’t pull away. WV looked worn down in the 4th-only scored two points. Both those teams should be at the state tournament

Human error is just part of the game and officials can make some bad calls for sure.  What I love about some (very few) officials is when they can come to a coach and say hey I might have missed that one.  Egos of officials is the number 1 complaint I have of them by far.  We have a lot of officials that come to games with an ego and chip on shoulder before games even start and they are unapproachable.  The best referees are the ones that can manage a coach without giving a technical foul.  Way too many officials are too quick to to T a Coach up or even throw out a fan.

Yes we need lots of younger refs!

I know it is a really tough job to be a referee but many times referees make situations worse in how they respond and I know they have training for this.

I did a search earlier using the terms Tennessee referee shortage on social media platforms. I’m not sure if many people realize how many games have already been called off and how many more are in jeopardy. And while I agree that maturity varies among our officials, maturity also varies among fans. And while foul calls obviously have an impact on a game, using the number foul calls in a game is a problematic metric.

All true

We have several referees that have come out of retirement the last couple of years to help out.
