Yep, 9 total placers return from last years team. Will be interesting to see where everyone settles into weights and they get everyone back. I’m also looking forward to seeing some of the new guys and how well they end up doing.

Was at the SD, Whitwell, Central dual tonight.  Bull at 150 redeemed himself from last year and was able to win by pin over Wyatt Davis.  Bull is probably top 3 at 144 this year.  He's made a lot of improvement.  Heard Cosper is going 150 or 57 this year with Bull moving down.  The lineup is pretty much the same.  Tucker Ross is not back this year.  Was a state placer but Im not sure how much he will be missed because SD seemed to fill that spot pretty well.  Myhan is at 113 and should repeat as state champ.  If SD stays healthy, everyone else is playing for second.   Should get a better pic of how things will play out at Beat Down this weekend.  Lot of good small schools there.

Lots of good schools there this weekend at Beat Down so should be a good test for sure. Very happy with Bull and it will be interesting to see where everyone settles in once they get to weight. Haven’t even seen Boogie yet so he should be back soon, some of the young guys are doing well also. Would be nice to have Blazek, Luke and Jenkins at 106-120 if they can all get there. I hate Ross taking a break, but he had a really long football season with a lot of punishment, so hopefully we see him again soon.

Saw Myhan in a 4pt dogfight against a then 7th grader who was wrestling up and age division at the Ironman this past May. I think the kid he wrestled is starting at Eagleville from what I’ve gathered.

im not saying myhan WONT repeat. I’m just saying it might not be the walk through you’re expecting.

Yes Riley Correll who wrestles at Eagleville as a 8th or 9th grader. That was also at 106 in April/May so it might be that Riley is right there with Luke and since they are both A wrestlers they will prob see each other later this season.

Just got back from the Beat Down in the Mountains tournament.

At 144lbs, Ezra Finstad of Gibbs absolutely put it on Colin Bull of Soddy with an 18-0 TF.

At 165lbs,  Howard of Pigeon Forge has to be the favorite.

At 175lbs,  Rawlinson from Soddy  looked very sharp, he's leveled up.

At 215lbs, Bingham from AC pinned his way through the bracket in dominant fashion.

Heavyweight Davis from Soddy wasn't challenged at all.  This was practice for him.

There were other match ups but these were things that stood out.

Soddy is just tough at every weight class.  Well coached. I don't know how many will medal (it'll be a lot though)  but dual wise no one should be close.  Maybe Signal or Pigeon Forge can stay within 18 points. Maybe.

Boogie was missing for Soddy, hate that Ross isn’t wrestling because that for sure lengthens the lineup some more. Luke looked good at 113

I watched that match. Correll wrestled up from 12U to 16U and bumped from 100 to 106. He did lose, but 4-1 was a dogfight.

Not sure how that math works, if he is an 8th grader now since he is wrestling high school he’d at least be 13/14, but either way he’s going to be a tough little wrestler.

How does the math not work? The kid was a 12 year old 7th grader in April at the Ironman. He’s now a 13 year old 8th grader. Sorry, I’m not following how that math doesn’t work.

Looking back on his track stuff he must have wrestled up for a while. Also I forgot wrestling does their stuff wrong as U12 usually means 11 because U means under 12. So it would be more like U13 and now he’s U14 now that he’s 13 years old. I do wish Public schools did not let 8th graders wrestle for high school. Most other schools do not have that choice to do so. I don’t care what private schools do since they are on their own, but it creates an unfair advantage for those schools that offer it compared to the vast majority that don’t have the choice. Good luck to him this season!

It’s only k-12 and 6-12 schools that allow it, right? I’m fuzzy on the rule. But if that’s the case, I’m not sure I see the unfair advantage because those schools are generally so small that they probably wouldn’t fill a full team without the 8th graders.

I’m speaking as it pertains to public schools. Private schools can always find someone.
