If it’s not an advantage, no one would do it.

I guess it’s similar to reclassifying kids once or twice so teams can have 15/16 year old freshman.

schools with an enrollment of 1,500 have the advantage of having a larger pool to select from than schools with an enrollment of 800. The way I see it, allowing 8th graders evens that playing field.

We all have our own opinions on the topic, but the fact is, like it not, no rules are being broken.

Jaxon Lane won a title as an 8th grader last year. Does anyone really believe he had an advantage because he was an eighth grader? If anything, he was at a disadvantage because of it. The reason he won a title was a result of the work he put in and the experience he gained the 10 years prior to winning his title. And, the advantage his team gained was again a result of the work he put in and the experience he gained the 10 years prior.

Wrestling is wrestling. When two kids walk out onto that mat, one might be 13 and the other 18. Age isn’t the advantage or disadvantage, hard work and experience is. Every kid out there has the opportunity to gain that high level of competition and experience. Not all of them capitalize on that opportunity. That’s their fault. Not the fault of the kids who choose to capitalize on those opportunities.

Ummmm, yes Jaxon won that title, but if he had stayed at Soddy Daisy where he grew up and went to most of middle school he wouldn’t have even gotten to wrestle. But don’t you think Soddy would have loved to have kids like Axel, Jaxon or even Knox wrestling for them as 8th graders?

Now it looks like we are conflating dual team comp vs individual comp.  If it's legal for one school to use 8th graders to fill a 14-man lineup, it should be legal for all of them or just make it against the rules for all teams to use 8th graders.  Either way, idc, just make it the same for everyone.

Rankings?  Shouldn't come out until late Dec if you ask me.

 A (team) rankings:

The top 2 are correct but Tullahoma is too high on the list.  So are Gibbs and Crockett.

A (individual) rankings:

Myhan at 113 is a lock but could easily repeat at 106 because of his size.  Either way he takes 106 or 113 regardless.  Higdon is 3rd this year.  John Haney can definitely hold his own though.  Should be interesting. 120 looks spot on.  For 126, Tyson Flavin at 3rd?  C'mon.  Took 2nd last year and no one beats him that isn't named Uhorchuk.  Both Uhorchuk positions seem accurate especially coming off good Super 32 performances.  144 seems the biggest toss up.  Cosper at 150 or 157 is a lock regardless.  Wyatt Davis and Von Loh will be tough.  165 could easily see either one of the top 3 taking the title.  Hard to call that one too.  Jackson Davis repeats.  Nathan Wade is definitely top 5 but not sure about 1. Darius Suddereth is going to a tough one for anyone to beat.  No one below Jonathan Davis's name is even in the same gym let alone bracket.

With Dalton Lopez dropping to 113, Myhan is far from a lock as repeat champion. The way Lopez wrestled last weekend, in my opinion, he’s the top dog at 113.

Not sure why Pennington continues to show in the 113 rankings when he’s wrestling 120 this season. Joshua Bennet has losses to every halfway decent wrestler he’s faced.

Maybe so, I mean he lost to Luke badly last year and he hasn’t wrestled a ton of competition this year being out in the west of the state. So not sure besides Correll who he’s wrestled and beat. There might be plenty of kids out there that have a shot, with the state being so spread out and not a lot of wrestling in between the teams at this point no one really knows. But in this case it will be one of those, to be the man you have to beat the man!

Lopez was out with a knee injury. This time of year is difficult to project with all of the movement and kids settling into the weights they may end up in for post season.

For sure, still time to have many more weight movements this season before postseason. 113 is going to be tough as it seems that it will include Luke, Lopez and Haney at 113 also. That doesn’t even include the guys that are under the radar now. So it’s going to be a good weight. Also Lopez might have been hurt but even without that most of the west schools just don’t have a ton of competition. Unless they make their way to the mid state often they just don’t have it tough week in week out. Also I do see Lopez tech falled Correll. That’s a great result for Lopez for sure but I’ve learned never to use non head2head results. Yes Myhan only beat Correll like 4-1 out of season. That was out of season and Myhan dropped to 106 for it. That was a pretty large cut which is why at beginning of actual season he was wrestling 120 and made his way down to 113.

Will be great to see if all come to focus in a few weeks!

    • "You gotta have heart" is on every Gibson County Logo around. They are not playing with effort right now. Body language has been bad a lot of the year. Don't know what is going on but this team is not focussed right now and hadn't been for most of the year. I know they can play better because they were focussed this summer and beat some really good teams bad. If we play with the same effort we did tonight against South Gibson, they will embarrass us by 25 points at home. I know the coaches have challenged this group all year and are as baffled about this as the fans are. If I was a JV player on Gibson County right now, I would be ready to roll because I would imagine the coaches are running out of patience with the lack of effort with the starters.
    • Yeah the player from South Fulton may be a Miss Basketball Finalist. She is a really good player. Simms is a step or two faster this year too. Westview just is playing really good right now. Their offense is in sync right now. Good win for Westview. Glad it didn't count as two wins. Very embarrassing loss for our fans and coaches.
    • I’d like to know Camden FG percentage tonight. The Melton kid is impressive and scored at will. Huntingdon has to make some adjustments during games.
    • Camden is good and handled Huntingdon tonight but they have struggled getting over the hump the last 3 or 4 years with State tourney caliber players.
    • Had a team drop out.   We have room for one more team.  Great weekend of fastpitch softball.
