I watched a few Huntingdon games this season. Warbritton is a fantastic back. I saw Peete against Huntingdon, Fairley and of course in person last week. He is a very good back as well. Pickett hasn't been 100% in a few weeks but who is after 14 games? I've watched Pickett all my life so I'm biased, but if you line those 3 up and tell me to pick one to build my team around it's 100% Pickett. He's just too versatile. Rushing, receiving, kick returns, int returns, etc....

I’m bias about the Huntingdon player too. He does all the above also has great hands out the backfield. And plays great defense, seen his career stats on defense around 300 tackles and 10 ints. But everyone thinks the players they watch the most and root for are the best.

Like I said he is a fantastic player. I didn't see the 30 int. That would put him pretty high on the list of career picks in TSSAA.

I know I'm biased in 3A for WV, but the Simpson kid (as a freshman) threw for over 4000 yards, 57 passing TDs, 1 INT, set the State of Tennessee single game with passing yards against a top-ranked team, and a season completion percentage of over 75%, and his team defeated the 3A award recipient on 2 occasions this season. The Covington RB is a stud and deserving as well, and a Senior, but I'd like to know of any freshman in the history of TSSAA history that has had a better year in the first year. Someone may have put up those types of numbers, but I'm not aware of anyone doing this in their first year in high school. It's an individual award and everyone that was mentioned could've won it and are awesome players, so I'm not disrespecting any of them...but at that pace of what was accomplished passing, he may set several state records before it's over. My two cents...

Sometimes bias doesn't matter. I'm not at all biased in the matter and think that it's shameful to promote this award as "best" or "most valuable" in their classification then use the kids age and eligibility as a metric. If Simpson were a Senior and Smith a Freshman, there wouldn't be a discussion at all because Simpson would have walked away with the honor without much discussion. I even get that upperclassmen have proven over time that they're consistent in their excellence, but sometimes obvious talent level and proficiency should IMO override that. Bottom line is, if you give the committee each kids yearly statistics without names or class...even including opponents' strength of schedule and success rate, Simpson's stand head and shoulders above anyone and everyone else, probably stands true for the past decade or two's past winners as well.

This ^^^^ all day long! I know there have been a couple/few back to back Mr Football’s but, can you imagine having one kid get it for all four years of his high school career? I’m sure that played into the committee’s mind as well.

    • Not sure how many officials Jackson has sent to state because I can honestly careless about D-2 basketball, unless USJ or TCA participates in the state championship in Cookeville. However, in the last 3 years, Jackson had sent officials that have all officiated the boys tournament in Murfressboro. Obviously, they can't call the girls state tournament games that involved the "Jackson schools" that are in the association, but not sure why they've done the boys and not the girls. But there hasn't been an official that has participated in the girls tournament that I'm not familiar with in terms of names.
    • There was one bald young white guy. Not sure where he was from, but he was the absolute worse.
    • The west tennessee association officials, one was at D2 tournament and two were at D1 boys. Not sure why none had girls.
    • Actually, I was there, and I agree, officials were terrible for girls and boys. In my opinion, 3 or 4 players should not foul out in a game on that stage. However, I stand by South Gibson will struggle until they can score. Thats just my assessment and opinion. As good as Dunn is, she's not a point guard and her being the primary ball handler has taken away from her scoring which they need.
