Riverside at East Hickman

One of the most egregious attempts by an officiating crew to affect the outcome of a game that I've ever witnessed. Someone should send video of the game to TSSAA officials and that crew should have the rest of the season off. Two tough, physical teams played tonight and one team had penalty after penalty while the other had virtually none. Riverside ran mostly straight at East, while EH ran sweeps and off tackle for most of their positive yardage...I mention that only because even most casual fans know that holding (flags) occurs more frequently on the edges while attempting to turn the corner, yet the calls were lopsided the other way. One in particular, the DE for the Panthers pushed the OL back from the line on a pass attempt, and the QB flushed away from them...the DL disengaged and chased, except the OL tackled him from behind with the white hat looking directly at them with no call. Unsportsmanlike calls went against Riverside all night with EH defenders piling on late, and shoving offensive players into the turf while unpiling. Riverside intercepted an attempt to throw the ball away, and celebrated by running over and congratulating the effort by the DB... flag for unsportsmanlike, yet East pooch punted and touched a Panther resulting in a turnover and East's entire bench ran on the field...nothing. I may be overestimating (a little bit, if any), but I'd guess that Riverside had twenty'ish calls against, while I only remember two or maybe three against EH, and one of them was a blatant personal foul with only a minute and change left. Be nice if @Bigpun54has penalty stats.

Sorry for the rant, but sheesh...I'm an impartial fan who just wanted to watch a good football game and couldn't enjoy it for the way it was officiated.

Officiating  wasn't much better at Huntingdon last night. I don't know that I've seen a well called game all year. I don't know where our crew was from but it seems every time we get a middle tennessee crew we get screwed.

Talked to one of the players today. He said that the penalty count was 18'ish against Riverside and 1 against EH. Said that he was unsure about the 18 (could have been 17 or 19) but he was sure about the one, because the coaches were yelling it both at them and at the officials toward the end of the game. That's right...one.

I heard the officials in the Huntingdon game were out of Memphis. They kept Loretto in the game the first half. One drive the officials helped march them all the way down the field. Maybe that’s how they have to do it down that way.  It was really bad and they were way out of their league. Hope we don’t see them again.

After seeing the game vs Huntingdon with Riverside, that shocks me very little that they were heavily penalized

I've seen a lot of games that were lopsided in calls because one team either lost their poise or there were mismatches that resulted in holds, but this wasn't that. Both were physical, run heavy offenses that know how to block (not many holds anyway), but when it was close to getting away from EH toward the end of the first half, they got chippy. Not jawing and pushing chippy, but piling on, grinding heads into the turf after the play, and marginal late/unnecessary hitting. Add a few head scratchers that made no sense and you get close to twenty. Game is probably available to watch still...if you've got a couple of hours free watch it for yourself and reading others' opinions on here won't be necessary. While you're watching Riverside's 18 or so, see if the blatant personal foul with about a minute and change left is the only flag you'd throw on EH.

I'm an East Hickman supporter and this is my first post. The game was streamed on TNL Today and can be viewed on Facebook for those that want to watch. The fact is the penalty count was not 18-1 . By my count, there were 12 penalties for 128 yards against Riverside and 6 penalties for 57 yards against East Hickman.

East Hickman's Penalties:

They were called for Offsides around 10:44 left in 1st qtr,  Offsides on the extra point attempt with 8:02 left in 1st qtr which led to Riverside getting a 2 pt conversion instead, a delay of game with around 4:02 in the 2nd qtr, a 15 yard personal foul on the extra point as time expired in the 1st half that was enforced in the 2nd half, a 15 yard personal foul with 1:39 left in the 4th qtr after an EH TD, and a 15 yard personal foul with around 1:25 in the 4th quarter.

I don't think the officials were great either, but I don't think they were one-sided. I didn't agree with 2 of the pass interference calls that benefitted EH. At 1:25:07 in the TNL Today stream, I thought EH's #24 was held on the play where Riverside got an interception. I felt compelled to post because I don't think East Hickman's season should be diminished for a penalty count rumor that is untrue. The bottom line is Riverside is a better team. They have lots of playoff experience. EH had their chances that they couldn't capitalize on. I'm still proud of the season our kids had.

I'll invite you to stay and participate as well. Your account of penalties is closer to my memory... the first two you mentioned I didn't see because I got there when East was attempting their two point conversion that tied the game at 8, and I didn't see the flag at the end of the half. We'll have to agree to disagree about the one sidedness, but I won't argue if you feel that way as a fan because Lord knows that I've been there. I also didn't attempt to diminish East's season or cast a negative light on their players, just that the officials were horrible.
