Middle TN high school sports.  Have close friends that have been ER faithfuls many years before they moved the high school off East Rob Road lol and they’ll even tell ya the last couple of years has been very talented no doubt but also ridiculous to watch most nights with the constant complaining of officials, after whistle banter, flapping gums at opposing team, undisciplined penalties, etc than they ever remember. I see it as more of an indictment of the coach not the players.

I agree with everything except the players and coaches statement. I know for a fact Brooks has done everything in his power including sitting them. Hasn’t worked. Just how they are

Chief different world we live in today. Coaches can only do so much. It's starts at home and unfortunately gentle parenting doesn't work that well. More unfortunate than that is that a lot are being raised by grandparents, siblings , other family members etc. I see a lot that blame the coaches and I just don't believe that's the whole picture.

Coaches are with them for a couple hours a day. Then they go home and get free range.

Disagree… they can act anyway they want to at home, but when they decide to play a sport the coach should have full control of their team!

If they want to act like fools then they sit or don’t remain in the team.

These coaches are sometimes the only true leadership these kids can get.

Stop worrying about wins and losses and worry about making these kids men!

Speaking from experience and though I didn’t like it at the time… the coach that showed me this kind of leadership is one of the men I respect most now that I’m an old man!

Amen!

Respect is not given it's earned, and sometimes it takes drastic measures to earn it from this generation. Respect is also passed down from year to year...if the Senior players show it, the underclassmen will adapt to it for the most part, and that goes both ways...the coach who respects his kids will have it returned by most without needing to "drop the hammer" too often.

I also agree that developing character in your players is the quickest way to ensure wins...one of the winningest coaches in Tn. HS football history used to love repeating his mantra "my job isn't winning games, it's making men out of boys, and men will win you football games". True then...true now...true in the future.

As someone who played for Brooks. I guarantee you he respects his players and disciplines them. He disciplined me when I needed it, and I’ve watched him sit 4 star athletes before. If I do believe this year he sat 7 starters vs Jo Byrns and then in 2022 he sat 12 players in a game. He disciplines. It’s not his fault that they do not learn after he does so. And personally I’m against kicking kids off a team. Playing football is the closest thing to a family some of these kids will ever have and I for one am not gonna take that away from them just because they run their mouth and gloat. I 100% agree that the team plays a little extra curricular at time. But Brooks isn’t to blame, he’s done everything in his power to discipline them. And they have been more disciplined this year, they’ve cut the penalties in half from last year.

I agree with everything you just said  and agree that is exactly how it SHOULD be.   Unfortunately in today's society that's a lot more difficult to achieve than it was when we were in school.

Agreed! Someone mentioned not liking kicking kids off the team, I dont either, however, if they refuse to conduct themself conducive to the standard set for the team then they gotta go, you absolutely have got to create a culture, and once it is in place, you will rarely will have to kick players off the team. Coach Wilson in Springfield holds those kids to a very high standard, if they do not meet it they are gone, they are given an opportunity to rejoin the team if they show they are willing to meet the standard. I didnt come here to bash Coach Brooks, maybe this is something he is in the process of doing, the team has to take precedent over individuals...

I’ve not kept up with that program in a couple years so this is not a shot at Brooks.

Im saying if a kid is becoming a problem and it is affecting your team or not following the rules… there are 2 things that I know that can be done no matter how talented the kid is… 1 is sit him and if that don’t work dismiss him off the team.

It shouldn’t matter how he is raised at home in terms of discipline.

If you allow kids to continuously break rules that you have had set then you are no better than the parent that you are pointing the finger at. ( again not a shot at any kid and or parent)

Your main responsibility when you’re leading a bunch of kids is to try to turn them into productive adults bottom line!

If you refuse  to do that because your afraid to lose a few games then you have done your team, yourself and the kid a disservice!

What kind of an example is to the kid or the rest of team if you allow him to continue to break rules because he is really good at football.

I myself was kicked off a team because I acted a fool. I thought I was above the rules and if it weren’t for that coach and the Grace of God there is no telling where my life would’ve ended up.

It was a tough lesson to learn, but it’s one that I’m glad I learned early so I didn’t ruin my  life.

He has kicked a kid or two off. Some may need it but if it’s all they have it’s extremely hard to do it.

    • Well, round 1 goes to NG 51-47.  This was a grueling physical game and probably one of the more exciting matchups in the series.  After trailing by 16 in the 3rd,  the lady landers staged a furious rally and had a chance to cut it to 2.  My girl Savannah had a steal and a and 1 to cut it 4.  I'm very proud of the effort but we need that the whole game.  We let Miller annihilate us tonight.  I think she had 26.  We need to figure something out there.
