Blackman @ Riverdale "Partie Deux"

Blackman has played some great ball at times this year and improved in a lot of areas, but failed to "finish" in some games that would be real changers in how the district looks. The Brentwood game was a game they were winning and handed it over in the last minutes of the game. They had Ravenwood on the ropes and played dominant defense against Oakland as well. Riverdale was the tale of two halves. Last week against Green Hills was as complete of a game as I have seen from them this year.

I believe if they play with that intensity, keep the game clean and stay focused and execute, they could give Riverdale fits.  I believe they may have turned the corner at just the right time. Thoughts?

I believe Blackman has a legitimate chance to beat Riverdale. Kriesky has improved this program.

Biggest crux for Blackman this year is getting any kind of consistency out of their offense. The defense has been there all season

Tooting my own horn here, but I was pretty vocal that Kriesky would make a positive impact at Blackman. He's lived in Murfreesboro for a long time and I see him staying at Blackman for a good while. Their feeder program has been every bit as good as Oakland's, so it was just an issue of laying a foundation.

Blackman needs to put pressure on Riverdale early with a score or two, they don't have the high octane offense they had last year but you do need to bottle up DJ Taylor

You were indeed. I am glad to see him having the success. I have had a chat or two with him and have a lot of respect for what he is doing with the program. I still believe we need a little more of that junkyard dawg mentality but see great things coming .

I will say that some interesting results could end up producing an interesting game next round! If Blackman can knock off Riverdale and Oakland beats MJ, that could end up being round 3 Oakland at Blackman if i saw that right...not looking past Riverdale or MJ by any means, just saying that would be something if they both win this round! And it looks like it could happen honestly...

If both win, the game will be at Oakland since they are the higher seed

Agh, makes sense...i just saw the bracket part that had the "H" on the winner of Blackman and Riverdale...but makes sense that Oakland would be home...that may actually make it even more interesting, lol.

That was put there when the brackets were originally released because it is 4-6A's turn to host the Quarters so winner of Oakland-MJ is hosting no matter how this game turns out

Blackman Offense has no identity or consistency all season. Way too much talent to underperform every week.

Blackman had been rotating guys on the defense front all season and didn't last night. D line got tired in the second half and stopped getting any pressure or push and allowed Riverdale offense to take over the game. Especially with the offense going 3 and out consistently.

Riverdale plays their best guys both ways, Blackman does not. #7 for Riverdale had some huge defensive plays and catches on offense.

Riverdale had 2 scoring drives kept alive by very questionable penalties. 2 ‘targeting’ calls on one drive and a horrendous PI on a 3rd and long incomplete pass. Both drives would have been punts, instead 14 points.

Riverdale HC should have got ejected at one point. Went bananas for 5 min straight screaming at the officials while standing on the field. Threw two flags on him, then officials just took it for the next 3-4 minutes. Assistant coaches were trying to stop him, he kept pushing them away. It was embarrassing.

Oakland Riverdale is a toss up next week as we see which team has the best transfers.

Next season toughest 6a region (BORO) just got tougher for next season, meanwhile some 6A regions  have 4-5 teams. RUCO region #5 and #6 will be better than some regions #1 seeds.

    • Dead Period does not mean the fans can't talk about football. 59 days and counting to opening season kickoff for most teams. Also wanted to share a picture of Coach Ted Wilson who won State Championships at Maryville in 1970,76 & 78 on his 91st. birthday a couple of weeks ago with his kids a lot of us went to school with. Coach is wearing his Kingsport D-B jacket which I know a lot of their fans would enjoy seeing. .
    • Any thoughts on what you seen these past few weeks? Got to see several top teams as well as players and some who didn’t live up to the hype.  Some players of note. My personal observation was that Chelby Jordan was the best player I saw. Great skill set and great attitude, definitely should be getting more love as she was the best player on the floor every time. EB McDonald has taken a big step and should have a great year. Roberts girl from Grace continues to impress and they should be a tough out. Bartlett didn’t seem to be playing everyone, not sure if they’re injured but seemed to have 2-3 sitting the few days I saw them. Bradley Central isn’t the world beater they have been but definitely still good enough to win it with Kimora. Some of the private schools looked strong, PCA and Lipscomb well coached, Ensworth had some young talent but look lost at times.
    • They were missing 2, one being Chaffin. Johnson had hand surgery right after the state tournament. He was just released to play the day before BCAT started.
    • State tournament has nothing to do with Miss Basketball. It's a regular season award.
