Henry County

So for those in know. Now that these unfortunate circumstances have taken place how does the administration move forward? Is there a plan to reopen a new hiring period  and take application all over again or will they just sort through the ones that applied the first time and narrow it down to a few to bring in?

Thought I'd do just that.  State report card with Avg ACT scores by school are the source here:

School         ACT

Page High - 25

Houston -  23.9

Maryville 22.8

Knox West- 21

Greeneville- 20.5

Alcoa- 20.2

Anderson County- 19.7

Oakland- 19.7

Sevier County- 19.6

Henry County-18.8

Honestly can't blame them for not making football the priority, and there appears to be an argument that better academics lead to better football anyway.

Per TN.Gov 19.0 was the state average for ‘23 grad class. All but one of those schools above that average.

Sounds like the old 6 one hour per day, year long class schedule that we used to run...if it is, it's easier than the block schedule to manage for sports. Six credits per year X four years adds up to many more credits than required, and scheduling football/basketball for the final class of the day is simple. One for basketball and however many to meet the teacher/student ratio required divided into assistant coaches solves that problem.

Where there's a will, there's always a way...especially if both sides want to be successful. Undoubtedly there were obstacles, but this isn't one that would trigger this discussion.

So 4 classes per semester, 2 semesters per year means 8 classes. 8 a year is more than your 6

It doesn’t necessarily mean 8 classes. Some classes, especially your maths and English are full year classes. Meaning you have to take both semesters to get 1 credit.

No need taking it further than necessary...nobody said that it translated into more available credits, just that there were enough non-mandatory class periods to easily make it work.

Some folks get caught up in the banter, and forget the point being made.

Hearing now that the schedule thing was just a cover up. End of the day Covington called back and offered more money. Don’t know how much more but it apparently was enough. I know who else was in the running and one would be a solid choice and the other would be terrible.

Their ACT average is 17.8.   Doesn't bode well for a championship.

I’m judging by this that they are not going to reopen the job and take more applications. Probably a good move to get the next guy in rather quick

    • Not sure how many officials Jackson has sent to state because I can honestly careless about D-2 basketball, unless USJ or TCA participates in the state championship in Cookeville. However, in the last 3 years, Jackson had sent officials that have all officiated the boys tournament in Murfressboro. Obviously, they can't call the girls state tournament games that involved the "Jackson schools" that are in the association, but not sure why they've done the boys and not the girls. But there hasn't been an official that has participated in the girls tournament that I'm not familiar with in terms of names.
    • There was one bald young white guy. Not sure where he was from, but he was the absolute worse.
    • The west tennessee association officials, one was at D2 tournament and two were at D1 boys. Not sure why none had girls.
    • Actually, I was there, and I agree, officials were terrible for girls and boys. In my opinion, 3 or 4 players should not foul out in a game on that stage. However, I stand by South Gibson will struggle until they can score. Thats just my assessment and opinion. As good as Dunn is, she's not a point guard and her being the primary ball handler has taken away from her scoring which they need.
