UCR( upperman cookeville reporter)

Recommended Posts

I like noah and jacob and the guys. They do a great job!  Some of the best play by play guys ive ever heard. I just wish they would give some other teams a little more respect! Thats all. Its nothing personal. Frim the beginning they always have covered the area. But whatever reason this year starting in football all they talk about is cookeville and upperman! Not sure what happened? May be money? Idk

All one needs to do is go to their Facebook page and go to the video and live sections to see this is not accurate at all. Cookeville and Upperman may get more but they do a ton of others. Did they not do all of the tournament games in Sparta recently? I see several Pickett County videos. Macon, Smith and Dekalb. I think they do a great job. Way better than NFHS video.

They are pathetic. It's all about Baxter.Every game football, basketball and baesball is covered. They claim to cover 5 or 6 counties but only cover one all the time.I called them out on it during one of their games and they blocked me.

Check their videos. They cover several counties. I disagree with you on this but we are all entitled to our opinions.

This is a situation that about 5-6 years ago we wouldn't bring these types of discussions up because no one outside of Nashville, Chattanooga, Knoxville, or any "major" city would do the Upper Cumberland justice in their coverage. Now we have a team (UCR) that does "go to bat" for the Upper Cumberland teams and their players. The team at UCR, in my opinion, deals with the Upper Cumberland like the championship teams do throughout the Upper Cumberland. They have a bit of a "chip" on their shoulder and I for one appreciate that. They try to make sure the Upper Cumberland gets their due justice especially come rankings and other individual type awards. Those decisions may or may not be in favor of Upper Cumberland, but the UCR team does all they can to make sure their voice is heard.

I have NO ties to UCR, but I watch a lot of sports around the UC and watch their social interactions.

I don't follow the UCR's schedule but I'm going to throw this out there. If there are above average teams in their coverage zone it only makes sense for those schools to receive more coverage. Going a step further, the TSSAA has a minimum broadcast requirement to participate in the state tournament. It only makes sense to make sure that teams on the path to Murfreesboro have the minimum number of broadcasts.

Since you posted this after the rankings were posted, I will assume that was the trigger.  Since two of their top 3 teams won’t play Cookeville it’s hard to get a clear #1 in the UC.  But based on resumes alone, White County does have an argument about being ranked too low.  Am I the only one that counted the number of wins vs teams with winning records?  UHS doesn’t have a single win better than WC win over Bearden or Cookeville’s wins over McMinn Central, York, Pickett, and Loretto.   The good news is at least WC has a chance to play UHS to get that respect.

For once in my life i agree with you ladycav! I do believe that wc will be ranked much higher then upperman in the ap when it comes out this week at least until we play them.

I don’t think they will be ranked much higher.  The AP voters tend to vote for the names and don’t do enough research on teams outside their area.  BCAT should have been the better voting system with coaches voting.

It is my understanding that many of the UC teams do not want their games broadcast by the Upper Cumberland Reporter. Either they feel it hurts ticket sales or they have other sources streaming their games that pay them for the right to do so.  Some schools, including Upperman and Cookeville, want their fans and the players’ families to be able to watch the games, even if they can’t be there, without any concern for a loss of ticket sales or the ability to make money off of the streaming service. Most of the teams are discussed during the Fire and Vine coaches’ show and score updates that they have access to are given during whatever game is being broadcast that night. I am almost certain that if your area has a business or businesses willing to be the sponsor and the school will permit it, they will broadcast your games.  The coverage that they provide is priceless to family members of players who can’t attend games for various reasons.

Ding ding ding. This thread has been hilarious. Gotta respect people being so confident while being so wrong.

Traditionally outside of district games, Cookeville plays mostly A and AA teams so it’s hard to say who’s better at this point. I’ve never understood that train of thought other than padding the win/loss records maybe. I don’t think it prepares you for 4A playoff basketball but that’s just my opinion.
