Very good update!! I was wondering if Father Ryan would get the respect they deserve. They dominated  a tough field at the Johnny Drennan!! Plus you add in the fact that Baylor backed out and refused to wrestle Father Ryan in a regular season dual so that says a lot!
Unfortunately the MBA vs Mccallie and Baylor and Father Ryan vs McCallie and Baylor duals ended up cancelled  due to weather anyway but Baylor had already backed out anyway.

Cleveland is certainly the top dog and rightfully so! Mccallie will get an electric environment and incredible atmosphere next Friday when they wrestle Cleveland. Going to be a fun match and the boys deserve atmospheres like that!!

In my opinion, Baylor is 3rd until they wrestle and Beat Cleveland or Father Ryan. Heck Baylor recruited 3 kids to their high school team this year and may not be done yet. Cleveland has just reloaded, McCallie added to their middle school but nothing to assist the high school yet and they do not have a senior on the team, so 4th is correct.
fun times as the season starts to hit the final stretch.
Thanks for putting together the update.

1. Mr. Villars, you are almost 60 and still obsessed with beating that red team across the river. Would you say that being a good high school wrestler has been the highlight of your life? You seem to be stuck in 1988. You were one tough customer back in the day, but you should probably move on from that.

You are always mumbling something about those boys in the red. Most of the time I can't understand what you are even saying.

2. I just looked at Baylor's schedule to confirm, but Baylor never had Father Ryan on their schedule this year.  I noticed this when it was posted back in September and thought it was different.  I heard it was because it is no longer a region dual.

Cleveland actually had Lake Highland on their schedule last year and backed about once they realized their streak was going to come to an end.

3. Do you or others actually care where teams are ranked? Why would Baylor or McCallie care about the TN high school rankings?  Are you not both National Prep teams?  Should you not be wrestling other national prep schools like SEM, Blair, and Lake Highland?  For the life of me, I can't figure out why both schools don't focus solely on National Preps and compete against peer institutions from around the country. I looked at Lake Highland's schedule and they don't wrestle a single team from Florida.  Why doesn't McCallie wrestle out-of-state teams?  Why don't you both leave the TSSAA?

4. Your son is very good at wrestling.  Congratulations.

5. Father Ryan will win D2 this year and Pat Simpson will retire. McCallie might have enough to pull it off.  Baylor is down this year.  I predict they finish 5th at the state tournament.  I have Lakeway jumping them this year.

No wonder you hide behind a politicians name because you  lack substance and facts! You speak from what you want to believe but don’t know the facts. In a recent post, You  admit you have little knowledge

When Cleveland, Father Ryan and McCallie all line up against you, then you may have a problem with your credibility!!!

Please stop hiding behind a politicians name! Like Cory Roark asked you… come out and introduce yourself to us at state duals or traditional state!!! Be a man for once!!!

The common theme behind Cleveland, Father Ryan and McCallie is we all want to win but we understand that it’s about the  wrestlers and their journey and the great atmosphere! We aren’t living through our kids but supporting them in the journey ( win or lose)!!! The wrestlers are not worried about losing. They love the challenge and great atmosphere!!! It’s only the coaches and politicians that worry about losing!!!

Baylor may get  challenged while traveling but they seldom get that electric atmosphere and great environment and y’all dodge local competition!

The recruiting expert once told me…he would only wrestle Cleveland when It made sense!!! ( Which told me that it was only when he could win)…sad and the wrestlers deserve better!

Appears Baylor fears  FatherRyan now  and  see them as a threat also! Maybe next year it will make sense to wrestle them after they graduate their studs!!! Father Ryan was  on the schedule this year and Baylor sent the message that they would not wrestle!!! Facts!!!

Lastly, if you think Baylor is down this year then you are truly out of the loop. Look at who they added  to their roster this year that was not there last year!!!! They should have won last year but things happen!

Lastly ….If we need to dip into the middle school records and show you who have advanced and excelled from the root source, we can do that also show you who builds from the ground up. Want to check what Baylor builds from kids club to middle school???

Father Ryan, Cleveland and McCallie have grounds to stand on!

Oh, Mr. Villars,

I see you are serious now.  You changed your font and had someone else type up your message.

Please spare us all the sanctimonious babble. While I take potshots at a few of you clowns, you directly disparaged teens last year on these very boards.  You called a couple of teens who made mistakes “delinquents”.

Also, your self-righteous propaganda has to stop.  You personally recruited all of Mike Sutherland’s kids to leave Boyd and go to McCallie.  You didn’t even send your own kid to McCallie until he had repeated 8th grade!  McCallie’s own Brayden Ryan was a state placer the year before, but he lost his spot to your son last year.  You brought a kid in from North Carolina and put him up off-campus.   One of your wrestlers lived with a coach.  You brought a kid in from another city in Tennessee and put him up in the dorms. You recruited wrestlers from Soddy.  I commend you for putting in the work necessary to rebuild your program. Keep recruiting, Villars!  But please don’t pretend like only the “bad guys” are doing it…

Father Ryan recruited Tran from Summit. Cleveland has always had move-ins, as far back as when Triston Blansit and Ethan West lived in Georgia and commuted to Cleveland every morning.

Bottom line: Kids will move or find their way to a program that offers something they are looking for.  Your dorms are full of Canadian football players the same way Baylor’s are.  Stop with the “bad guy” propaganda.

As for scheduling: Baylor appears to have the hardest schedule in the state.  They traveled out of state 5x in the month of December and collectively wrestled over 100 nationally ranked individual opponents. The give and take of that is that they don’t compete locally as much.  While that is a different experience than what you are providing at McCallie, it doesn’t make your experience inherently better.  Nor does it make their experience necessarily any better; just different.  For many of the families at Baylor, they are seeking national exposure to get opportunities at highly selective universities. Baylor's job isn't to compete to please you and Mr. Rorak.

I have mentioned this before, but I am of the mind that the Tennessee private schools should operate like other National Prep schools. The best thing that could happen to them is for the TSSAA to stop sanctioning private school wrestling. Then they could operate like Lake Highland, Green Farms, Blair, St. Christophers, Gilman, Sem, and others.

If he did introduce himself to you y’all would you just beat the crap out of him, maybe both of you at the same time. What if he was around 90 years old? Would you still give him the beat down he deserves? That would certainly make him think twice about posting on a message board. You could meet on the playground after the last bell.

There are weird people in every aspect of wrestling and that’s what makes it a great sport!  As far as schools/coaches not wanting to compete against other schools unless the chances of winning (home gym, coach picks the official, the competition date is perfect for school/coaches X) this is strictly a coaches ego getting in the way of the big picture.  When carefully examining the situation so many coaches/schools have lost sight of the big picture and that is to teach student athletes that the most important goal is not winning a championship but learning how to continue fighting and trying to reach your goals when things don’t go your way.

Bobby,

You are certainly proving your lack of knowledge and ignorance.

  1. As to the font and me writing these words, your accusation is false and foolish.
  2. My son never repeated 8th grade. Nor 7th, 6th, 5th 4th,3rd or 2nd
  3. I did not recruit these wrestlers away from Mike and matter of fact, Dylan was the last one aboard!   I did coach all these wrestlers during the summer for many years and our famlies traveled and we did indeed build a close relationship and some of us ended up joining together. Was hoping it would be at Boyd. We wanted to do something special at Boyd but when Axel Richie didn’t get in Boyd and was accepted into McCallie, the wheels started to fall off and the direction did change.  Voiles also left ND and went to McCallie so the thought process did change. I did what Mike did for his son and gave him an opportunity for a great education and good fit for being a student athlete.  Once we did commit then anyone who knows me, knows my passion and dedication and I may be guilty of that for certain!! Did I and do I express the great opportunity Mccallie offers …absolutely! The difference is I am a dad and not a coach. I could dive deep into this point of recruiting and have facts to back it up but it’s irrelevant at this point.
  4. Concerning several of the other wrestlers you call out, you haven’t a clue of the real underlying circumstance so stop spewing garbage till you have all the facts!
  5. Wrong again about Braden Ryan…he placed in state last year also and assisted in our unprecedented  state run!
  6. You never did admit that you were wrong about your teams schedule either. They indeed backed out and it affected 3 other teams and some good matches. Thats why I called it out.
  7. It’s time to get back to the point of this thread and it’s about the teams. It probably will change as the season moves forward but I did like the fact that the author recognized Father Ryan’s body of work and talented group. I do believe Cleveland is still top dog  and we thank them for hosting us as they put on a great event and the boys get spot lights and an amazing atmosphere. That’s what it is about. We don’t want a 10 year deal or a  home and home scenario. We are perfectly happy with them hosting each year! Thats the difference in the 2 schools. Cleveland deserve the revenue because they put a lot of work into the whole program and are great host!

There you go again! Everyone knows the truth and most of what you said isn't.! Your kid is an absolute stud. Let him and McCallie go show everybody. They wrestle Baylor in 10 days and then region and state competition. Stop yapping and crying on here. I'm sure most of your fellow team's wrestling parents are cringing.

Prove anything I said is not true!!!
I stated facts and no one other than those who hide behind the internet is debating any of it!!!
We will go battle the rest of the year and work this summer to get better. Last year was certainly unexpected and this year is an even bigger challenge. However the team will ve coached up and will go battle.

1. please prove I don’t write my own post

2. Please show me that my son was held back in 8th grade!

3. please explain how I did all the recruiting and what I stated is not true!!!!!

4. explain that what Bobby said didn’t have a lot of underlying situation and was not how he portrayed it!!

5. explain that Bobby called my son out for taking a wrestlers spot yet he placed in state last year!!

6. Explain to me how Baylor not dropping g out and refusing to wrestle Father Ryan didn’t affect 3 other teams and all their wrestlers???!!!

7. explain to me why this thread got high jacked because I praised the author for recognizing Father Ryan and certainly calling Baylor out for hurting the other teams and wrestlers!!!

8. Tell me how it’s not a good thing to let the best  public and private teams wrestle each other in the state and go to their place ? The wrestlers deserve that atmosphere and great environment!!!!

please explain and keep putting g me down as you spew crap!!!

Mr. Villars,

Let me get this straight.  When you develop “relationships” with all these folks from other clubs and parts of the state, and then they show up at McCallie it is called building from the ground up.  But when a kid from a different club shows up at Baylor- it is bad.  Got it.

The truth of the matter is that McCallie was in a bad spot before you recruited all of your friends to join.  They were losing duals to CCS and turning off the scoreboard during the Baylor-McCallie match.  Now, as I have clearly stated- I commend you for doing the recruiting necessary to rebuild your beloved program.  Hope they gave you coach of the year honors over there last year.

I do stand corrected on the Brayden Ryan comment.  It turns out I had the wrong boarding student in mind.  I had to go back and check the records. It was Jed Pierce.  You know the boarding student you all recruited out of Atlanta who placed as a freshman?  But then you all recruited right over him and he had to sit the bench as a sophomore.  Just no loyalty over there.

The good news is that you are still the team to beat this year.  Father Ryan might get you, but I know you will have them coached up come state tournament.  As for working all summer: you are going to have to give me more details on that.  I follow TN wrestling closely, and I didn’t notice you guys anywhere this offseason. I didn’t see you on the freestyle circuit. Not much of a presence at southeast regionals or at Fargo.  I never see your coaching staff outside of the season.   The teams that seem to support offseason wrestling are Cleveland, Summit, Christian Brothers, and Baylor.  They send large cohorts of kids to Fargo and other offseason tournaments and their entire coaching staff travels with the team.  Maybe you all do this, and I am missing it.

As for your current neurotic fixation, I told you Baylor didn’t put Father Ryan on their schedule this year.  It was never on the schedule the school released back in September.  It is none of my business why. It is also none of your business why.   I assume that Baylor will wrestle them at the state duals, state tournament, and national preps.  How many times should they wrestle the same team/kids in the last month of the season?  Steve Logsdon would never wrestle Baylor and you know what: it wasn’t a big deal. It didn’t kill local wrestling.

It is like arguing with Otis Cambell…
