1A and 2A Region 7 Predictions

Recommended Posts

1A:

1. Dresden - Retuning a lot as well, should be back to running this region with UC out of the picture.

2. Lake Co - Losing a lot, but returning some solid playmakers, I trust them more than anyone not named Dresden in this region.

3. Gleason - Returning everyone, as long as they stay healthy this year they should make the playoffs.

4. Greenfield - I think Greenfield is a well-coached team usually, with SF down I trust them more then Humboldt or WC.

5. Humboldt - Athletes are there, I think Williams did solid last year, but until they can prove they are a playoff team I will keep them out.

6. West Carroll - New HC and a lot of rumors about players potentially leaving.

7. SF - With HC leaving and a huge class graduating, they will be in for a rough year imo.

2A:

1) Milan - Lots of debating if they should be 2a or not, but they are here and are the team to beat in this region. Retuning a lot of production off a team that made a run to the championship game last year. Milan run's it back and makes a good run again.

2) Union City - They are always a really good team, reloading year in and year out, I like what they have coming back next year so even moving up from 1A I think they are a top two team in this region.

3) Peabody - Losing Jacobs could have been detrimental, until they called up DC Tab Vowell who is an exceptional coach. Losing a few key players off last year's team but retuning some really good players including a stud RB in Agnew.

4) Huntington - Losing Eubanks and Warbritton will hurt, making them take a slight step backwards. But They have proven to reload, and I believe they are still a playoff team.

5) JCM - Someone had to get left out of the playoffs, after a great turn around last year, I think they return to earth a bit this year. Losing some great players will hurt and turn this to a slight rebuilding year.

6) Halls - Moving up from 1A to 2A hasn't boded well in the past for halls, I think they are a solid team, but not a contender in this region.

7) Gibson Co - Struggled mightily last year, I think that continues this year.

In no way am I an expert, but here are my thoughts on 1A and 2A region 7. Obviously, the games are played on the field, and teams that seem down and out could turn it around, and teams with high hopes could fold. Looking forward for some great football in West TN this year!!

I think you are right on the money with these predictions.  You seem well versed in West TN high school football.  I’d like to hear your predictions and thoughts for 1A region 6 if you would be willing.

The bright spot at SF is they return experience on the o and d lines. A solid group of freshman coming up will aid. Skill positions took a big hit to graduation. With new coach coming in idk what to expect. But you very well could be right with this right here. I expect Dresden to be very well seasoned after how they finished the second half of the season last year.

Don’t sleep on JCM , they are a future powerhouse if things continue trending up in that direction I don’t think Huntingdon makes the playoffs this year but they are always well coached . I also think Humboldt could be a team that surprises people this year, Gleason as well .. both could take a Halls like leap .. a lot of experience there if everyone comes back anyway .

Huntingdon has a strong freshman class and several key contributors are back from the upperclassman.  The Mustangs will have less pressure and expectations will be lower but I still think they can finish 2nd behind Milan.

Yea I would be surprised if Hdon doesn’t make the playoffs.

I do not disagree with that. With JMCSS putting a cap on JCM that will keep them in 2a JCM is set up for success. Their graduating class had been with Turner since they were freshmen as his first full class I believe and it was a lot of talent leaving this year. I could see them getting in the 4 spot this year, I just trust Huntington’s ability to reload more than JCM at this moment haha.

I like Gleason a lot, and they return I am pretty sure everyone. Add in Lampkins as coach who does more with less than most other coaches in west tn and I think they could be a dangerous team. Humboldt I do like, but their OL and defense scare me. But with a second year under Williams I think they do much better. He did very well getting bolivar back to a 6 win team in a tough region a few years back. He is young and energetic, seems like a good fit for those kids and the offense was fun to watch at times when they were clicking. I was at their game against halls last year and thought they played the better game and were put in position to win, just couldn’t pull it off.

Lmao if gleason finishes as a top 3 team in this region I'll eat my dog.

This guy thinks Union City and Peabody are still in 1A I guess  🤣.. They’ll demolish West Carroll .. you’re hating big time .. they’ve got a stud RB/WR in Byington and a heavy SR class.. if they don’t at least come 3rd , injuries are the issue lol

    • sounds like you know that team better than most. You are right, the PG needs some relief. The twins are both going to be a lot better this year and the girl that came off the bench some for them that wore #20 seems to have the potential to knock down some shots if she is working hard right now. I'm not familiar with Allen.
    • Sequatchie’s backs are very good, will have atleast 3 backs with 2,22,21. Got a kid in from Hixson who is a very good athlete from what I heard, he played qb and wr I believe. We lost some linemen from last year, and honestly our line wasn’t that great but our qb, rb and wr found a way to score. Sophomore qb last year is a stud, kid can make plays with his feet and has a good arm. Only question for Seq is the line, defense should be pretty solid though have a lot returning. Have another tough schedule this year, with south Pitt who should more than likely win state, Marion county is always tough, they lost a lot from last year but should still make state probably, walker valley will be tough, Giles and Watertown will be tough don’t know how signal mtn will be.
    • If they score like your saying they will win it all. Their defense is going to hold whoever under 40. If I am South Gibson I full court press early and often. They are really good at it and it creates lots of transition buckets. They have to learn to score in the half court better. Most teams at the Glass House has trouble scoring consistently in the half court. It would be nice if they could get another PG to relieve Dunn from handling the ball so much. When your best guard has to bring the ball up the court 24/7 it makes it tough. When Gibson County got Akira Riding a couple of years ago it helped Micah Hart a lot and it opened stuff up for her. Allen is coming up from the 8th grade and if she hits the ground running it will help South Gibson a ton.
    • 12-11 is filled. Still need 1-15
    • I'm interested to see the defense! Lots of changes.   Offense will be better imo
