As they do every year. And I think it means a lot more to Science Hill (Stacy Carter) than it does DB. Since the game has been moved to the last game in regular season, DB is already tired of playing football, has seen all the band performances, and is ready for basketball season. It's baked into the cake that they're going to lose in the first or second round of the playoffs anyway so why bother. Plus, the DB coaching staff is very lazy, top to bottom. By the10th game they're just ready for the couch. Pretty good assessment.

The only thing that conference was known for is beating up on the upper east TN directional schools then coming down to Knoxville and getting beat in the first or second round of the playoffs. There were maybe a couple of times in the 90's that DB slipped past the Knox County line, but yeah for the most part that is the proverbial line in the sand for NET big schools

The "old Big East Conference" had several Knoxville teams in it. I think DB won that conference championship almost every year. Knoxville then 5A and now 6A are nothing to brag about. I don't see any of those teams any better than DB year in and year out. DB actually wins most of those match ups. Look it up.

They lost in the semi-finals 3 times, twice to the eventual state champions. Excuses are just that, excuses, but the 2000 team was built to win a state title......but only on a dry surface where their speed was a major problem. A driving rain storm was a huge factor against Red Bank in the semi finals that year. They also had markedly better players than now. Those teams had D-I starters as well as several NFL players. You all would know better than I, but people I trust say they aren't even a shadow of that now as far as talent is concerned.

One thing that has changed talent wise is that the development is all but nonexistent. In those days we had pretty decent little league and middle school coaching. Now it couldn't be worse. You can't compete for a state title against the Maryville's and Oaklands if you are 5 years behind in knowledge. Don't even get me started on that Red Bank game. That was a long time ago but still stings. Just another Clark second half meltdown.

Washington County now has only 2 middle school football teams comprised of the Boone feeder schools & Crockett feeders. This started a few years ago and maybe the jury is still out on how it affects HS football, but in my humble opinion it has NOT helped Boone or Crockett either one. Maybe it had to be done for budget reasons, lack of coaches, etc. At least Kingsport still has school independent teams in the feeders. blazer1set
To be fair, the context of the previous 6 posts are about talent level @ DB, not coaching.
